Hey everyone

A couple months ago I bought the z-5500's to go alongside my asus Xonar D2x
Now don't get me wrong I love the speakers they're awesome but i feel they lack bass not keeping to the reputation they have as bass spammers (lol). Also I try to alter LFE crossover frequency in my Xonar control centre and it makes no noticable difference. I am currently using analogue connections was using optical but then I heard better to use Analogue so the z-5500s DACs arent decoding the sound. I have the subwoofer volume maxed have tried replacing the fuse and factory reset aswell. With the volume maxed the subwoofer at times can be barely heard :(. Would anyone have any clue as to what could be wrong. I am currently running windows 7 but have tried all mention before on windows xp.

My pheory: The subwoofer isnt being sent volume through the actual sound card and that is why its lacking bass however I thought the speakers themselves do a LFE crossover of 120hz

Any help appreciated ;)

PS: Sorry for signing up and straight out asking questions but this has been bugging me for ages.

hmmmm you said your running analog do you have a wire for the sub plugged in?

yes this issue also happened with digital its funny through the sound test if i click sub on windows it does play straight to it so i don't understand why crossover dosen't work

EDIT: I just tried muting other speakers and leaving sub so atleast means i could up sub and lower speakers for more bass

EDIT: Also silence when i turn off crossover frequency so that is working that means it might be the speakers themselves :S

have you tried disabling crossover? maybe more than 1 app is trying to regulate the sound so its messing it up.

yeah its usually off seeing it didnt seem to do anything i added some edits to post above if theyre any use

I've used the Creative X-Fi Xtremegamer, Auzentech Prelude, and now the Xonar D2 (PCI version of the D2X, which I've also owned). The bass produced through my Z-5500s with Xtremegamer and Prelude, being X-Fi cards, was PLENTY. The bass was thick and very much present.

I originally was happy with at least the bass on the Xtremegamer. When I switched to the Xonar series, I noticed the bass was diminished. Although I did like the clarity in music on the Xonar, I felt like I needed bass so I sent it back to try the Prelude. The Prelude provided the same amount of bass as the Xtremegamer except music was a bit clearer. Sound separation wasn't as good as I'd hoped (and experienced with the Xonar), so I put my foot down and told myself I'd stick with the Xonar once I got it back.

Now that it's back and I've found out it's not as good as I remembered, I'm going to test it against the Prelude I still have and see which I'd be happier owning.

It might just be the the speakers themselves that are making me unhappy. I've heard the Z-5500s aren't good for music and I'm really beginning to believe it.

Back to the point: get an X-Fi card if you want bass at the expense of sound separation and clarity. Xonar is for clarity and full Dolby/DTS features.

Don't let a z-5500 sat. go below 125hz.
I own a z-5500 (currently out of order), and bass has always been a high point for the price.
