Logitech Z906 to PC with optical: No sound + no light on "effect"!

There is no sound from my speakers when connecting the Z906 with optical to my PC. It used to work until a couple of days ago before I had to re-organize the speakers (disconnecting cables etc.), but upon reconnecting the speakers, they do not work anymore...

Furthermore, when I go through the different inputs on the z906, I see the orange light on the input, power-button and volume meter, but no light on "decode" and "effect" when I have it set on the input that applies to the optical (in my case, input 3). But when I switch it to input 2, it shows light on the effect (3d, 2.1 etc.)

I have updated the audio drivers on my Windows 10 PC, i have tried to factory reset the Z906 and tried to change the optical cable, but still no sound. However, when I use my headphones (connected through Revelator io44), the sound is working fine, so there's nothing wrong with the PC sound, I guess...

Any ideas what can be wrong and how I can get sound working again on my Z906?
 
Have you gone into windows and set it as default audio device? -- Silly question but often overlooked.

Windows 10 has been known to switch default sound devices after an update.

Possible cable fracture, the Z906 will only show effects if the input is stereo, else decode if the input is DTS/Dolby, else there is no input.
For example if I switch to input 4, from 3 (optical 1), then both effects and decode go away, nothing connected.

Check for looseness or try another cable.
