but anyways alot of ppl say nvidia is the best for agp atm so

should i get the

BFG GeForce 7800 GS OC 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-016-BG

or

Gainward BLISS GeForce 7800 GS+ SILENT 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-032-GW)

both are from overclockers.co.uk
or any other cards you may think are good on that site

i got about £240 to spend

If stuck on Nvidia, that go with the XFX PVT70KUAD7 Geforce 7800GS 256MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail. It's the same price, but comes with a clock speed of 440MHz and memory at 1300MHz.

IMO you are paying too much for any of those cards. AGP is ridiculously priced these days. You can get a same spec PCIe card at core clock of 540 for 2/3 the price.... can' wait till I get another mobo......

NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS AGP shootout

:)

* Hope that is of some assistance to you... & especially to you!

(I say that, because an x1600 AGP Radeon is compared to them in the review!)

APK

P.S.=> All-in-all, it is a decent review - It compares NVidia AGP cards from the 6800 Ultra up to the 7800GS series from a few vendors (even overclocked units), but again for you? Probably dead-solid perfect since you own the RADEON compared in it... apk

Remember that the Gainward 7800GS+ is not a normal 7800GS, it has a full blown 7900GT core running at 450MHz with all 24 pipelines open. As a result it absolutely spanks ALL other 7800GSs. Plus it has a decent cooler, which is especially nice when you consider how hard it is to find 3rd party heatsinks which will fit a 7800GS. It's not too badly priced either when you consider all that, and the fact it has 1/2 GB of memory and a 3 year warranty.

I wouldn't trust that PSU with any of those cards. Brand is more important than power rating, but still aim for 450w+.

Wild! I wasn't aware of that Gainward unit holding a "better engine" on it vs. the ones from the review above I noted... cool!

There were two special edition Gainward GS cards. The other one had a 20-pipe G70 at 425MHz, was released a couple of months earlier and was simply called "7800GS", without the "+". When the "+" was released, it was well over £300. But now they are around £250, which is decent considering a PCI-E 7900GT 256MB from a decent manufacturer is about £190. When they get down to £200, I'm getting one

thanks a lot for the info

ok so my pcu i have atm is no good i take it?

so what one from overclocker.co.uk do you think a good one that will run the 7800 ok and will not break the bank hehe

thanks

I wouldn't say your PSU is no good, but it may or may not handle the 7800GS. And considering the price of the card, any doubt isn't a good thing. I had a 420w Thermaltake that couldn't quite power a 6800GT properly, I personally would rate that PSU above yours (it cost twice as much :( ) and the 7800GS will probably need more. I now have a 580w Hiper Type R and couldn't be happier. To be honest though anything 450w or above from a decent manufacturer (OCZ, Enermax, Seasonic, Tagan, PC Power & Cooling) should suffice.

If you do go ahead and buy a new card, remember to post some benchmarks ;)

ok thanks i will get a new good 500w pcu to be safe

but now i need a new pcu it mite be 3 weeks till i get them both so i mite as well not buy the card just yet then as in 3 weeks time the price mite drop abit :)

thx again
