As the title says, been looking to pair my a10-6800k with a dedicated gpu, CPU runs @4.5GHz and is paired with two sticks of dual chan RAM @2400MHz (if it makes a difference) and a PSU of 750w with 12v capable of 60A, budget will hover from 250-350 (if things move as swift as i want them too), brand can be AMD or nVidia with enough horsepower and vRam for high/ultra 1080p gaming.

My own research has lead me to either powercolor's pcs+ cooler design for a possible r9 290(x variant or nah) or the msi gtx 970 main reason being gaming temp as the lowest for each GPU of respective brand AMD/nVidia because where i live it gets pretty hot on summer, it's currently 32 degrees outside and 29 inside with an index of a whooping 89% humidity and it's only 11am.

Looking for a new GPU as the integrated gpu was used for almost two years before i was given a gtx550ti from a friend on november 2014........yes a gtx550ti on 2014, i currently have a 1440x900@75Hz ASUS monitor that i will also upgrade after i get the new GPU.

And sorry if it all seems to look a bit messed up! english is not my main language :"D.

I can't say for sure, your cpu would be bottleneck gpu. Since you've overclocked to max limit, a gtx 970 or r9 290(x) would be enough for gaming @1080p. If you're concerned about cost go for amd.

Just remembered a friend has a pIIx4 965BE with a r9 290 paired with a 1080p screen, went over to check on performance and i can say it was pretty good, according to cpu benchmarks my 6800k should be faster, and budget is about 300$+ still gonna wait for the r9 390 agaisnt the 970 and possibly even wait for the 380.

If you plop anything more than a R9280x then your CPU will bottleneck the rig. Your best bet is an i5+GTX960 combo for the performance.

The bottleneck thing is a total nonsense. I've downclocked my CPU to just 3,2GHz and I couldn't sense any difference in games. At all! Only place where I've noticed the difference was when compressing with 7zip, encoding video, processing batches of thousands of PNG files etc.

Also, if you look at the tests, majority of games have like 5fps difference between cheap Core i3 and the most top end super duper expensive Core i7 running at 4GHz. There are just few games where CPU makes a big difference, for most part, graphic cards are what really changes things. It was the same when I had Celeron 333MHz with Savage3D and replaced it with GeForce 2 MX and it's the same the entire time I own my Core i7 920. What actually makes a difference is a graphic card.

Bottom line, if you want better graphics and better performance, just buy a better graphic card. It's really that simple. If you can overclock the CPU, do it, but thats pretty much it.

Not enough budget for the i5+960 combo.

I already tested CPU bottleneck, i have games that lower in FPS while underclocking and undervolting, not to mention last time i checked your i7 920 is about 5% faster than my 6800k(both at stock speeds) and from reading your computer spec you have an older gpu which your cpu may not bottleneck as much as a r9 290 or a gtx 970, anyways i'll just wait direct x12 with my arms open i guess.

Not to mention it's hard to find GPU benchmarks with different CPUs.

I can't remember where, but I've seen comparisons between some crappy Core i3 and highest end Core i7 and differences in FPS were very small in 90% of games. Only few were very CPU heavy. That's why investing in better graphic card makes more sense than investing in new CPU.

I'm investing in a new GPU not CPU :P, just wanted to know the impact of the CPU on the GPU performance.

Normal OC'd i3 with a new GPU would work nicely.

choose AMD if you have an amd cpu as you will be able to download all the apps. one is where you can choose hand swipes as macros. have the pc shut down or turn the sound up and down. load a certain website... there are benefits to owning a full amd system.

It affects performance, but not enough to justify the cost of replacing 3/4 of the system because of it. I mean, my mobo and CPU are both like 5-6 years old. And I still play all my games at max settings. I've upgraded several graphic cards in the meanwhile though...

With the resolution you're using, if you get something within a GTX 970/R9-390X range, you should be fine for quite some time. Even if you upgrade to 1080p screen or something...

Just put a GTX960 in it and you'll be happy.

I have a 6800K, I've paired it with both my GTX960 and my GTX970. The CPU didn't really hold back the 960, they both worked well together at 1080p. The CPU did hold back my 970, but at 1080p the 970 is putting out such a high FPS that it doesn't make sense anyway.

What? I never knew AMD made webcams and webcam-related software.

Wait for directx 12 , you cpu shouldn't bottleneck that much then + wait for the 380x-390 and fury nano price (must be the same as 390x).
If with directx 12 your cpu still bottleneck those cards check by how much, bottleneck a card by 2-5fps is insignificant.

yeah dude go look on there site at apps. I received an email about a month ago and I was devastated they would only work on amd based systems...

you only get to use their software if you use one of their cpu's +gpu i'll go find you a link...:toast: bam!!!!!!! http://www.amd.com/en-us/innovations/software-technologies/elite-experiences

  1. First, check out our handy tool to see if your AMD A-Series processor is geared to run AMD Elite Software, including AMD Face Login and AMD Gesture Control*
  2. Next, download the Elite Software from our partners using the quick links in the tool and install it on your system.**
  3. Discover how amazing, powerful, intuitive and just plain fun your new AMD A-Series processor-based PC really is

You mean another one of their exclusives in an attempt to keep a market share? "Buy our and only our CPU/GPUs and get free software that makes you look strange waving your hand at your computer!"

They need a new sales team.

It seems that GTX 960 is your best bet w/o upgrading your cpu. Because Intel will be releasing Broadwell, there'll be price drops for haswell and you can grab them and upgrade your system altogether to play @1080p or @1440p.

some people don't get it and others do... your obviously a little new to the game if you've never even used gesture control. maybe in a few years when everyone uses it youll be able to follow the crowd... for the rest of us, we like new technology and being on the cutting edge... ^^
