Hi guys,

Recently at a festival my MacBook Pro got soaked from the underneath (poor quality tent) but was completely protected from a birdseye angle so to speak from a waterproof plastic sheet.

The water soaked through the bottom of the tent and my laptop just shut off, I wondered what was happening so I lifted it up and a terrential downpour of water came pouring out of the air vents... so obviously it had shorted out or whatever and that's why it turned off (it had full battery at the time)

I haven't turned it on since, it's currently drying in my airing cupboard. The battery indicator light is showing 2 dots but one of the dots really far away at the other end of the scale is also lit (not a good sign) and despite happening about 30 hours ago, the bottom of the laptop in one section is still hot even though I haven't used it since and it's been shut.

The first sign I noticed that something was wrong was when the sound popped and became all tinny, but I attributed that to being drunk and I thought maybe my hearing had gone weird... if only I'd just realised!

Any suggestions as to what I should do?

I haven't turned it on or put it on charge, but I don't want to do anything that might cause further damage as there's a lot of important stuff on there, and I can't afford a new one

Many thanks in advance :)

You cannot pull the battery, eh? 'mFraid it's probably toast.

The whole "one side is still hot" = O M F G !!! in my books.

Well I can always open it up but I don't know that it'd do much good, and I'm not sure if you can remove their batteries without extra tools or whatever... not very clued up on hardware in laptops :)

And in case anyone is wondering why I took my laptop to a festival... because I can't live without my own music, and my phone got stolen last weekend with all my music on it and the only iPod I have is an old one, and I despise wearing headphones, so I brought it along to have a fat sesh in the tent! And I did for about 2 hours before it blew up!

Yea it is that one, but I just don't know where to go from there once I've removed the battery...

Do I just leave it like that and take it to Apple? Or is there something I can try as a test to see if it's fuuuuuuuuuuuckled

Why in the hell did you take your laptop to a festival? Festivals are meant for partying!

Lol dude I explained in an above post, the partying comes after the pre drinking

I needed music for a tent sesh! You kno how it is

They used to make these things called radios, some even had tape pl.....ummm CD players in them. They are a lot cheaper to replace then a laptop.

But radios don't have the music I wanna listen to on them :) Let's not ponder over the what if's, I just wanna see if she's save-able! :(

Okay so I just opened it up and a fucking insect crawled out lol!

There's still quite a lot of water droplets all up in the business... I'll remove the battery and dry it out

If it shorted then ur sol, if it was off and got wet then yes u could just dry it out.

O well time to buy a windows and leave the dark side :nutkick:

And +1 for why did u bring it to a festival.. ever heard of an ipod? or any cellphone made in the last 5 years?

I'm going to be unhelpful and scold you for going to a festival with an expensive piece of kit as well!

It's like rule one man! RULE ONE! lol

In England especially!

Well done Shibdib for not reading any of the posts in which I explained every point you made...

Haha yea indeed Panther, but hey-ho... I could probably save for a new one quite easily, but it's just irritating to have to buy another one when I already had one D:

Couldn't remove the battery so you need a tri-screw or something so I just disconnected it, cleaned up all the visible water and that was that

Shall bust down to Apple store tomorrow and see what the smarmy curly haired underweight man has to say

Well fuck you too?

I told you if it was on and got wet and shorted ur sol.. what the fuck else do you want to hear

Lol, stop being an American and going at it like a neanderthal with an aggressive attitude when it's not called for. It's your own fault for not reading the posts above...

Panther said the same thing but in a polite and friendly way, not hard to do the same is it?

But clearly this thread is now going to go off topic about how everyone hates everyone so I'm out

Thanks for the help guys

Cya! (:

Nope I hope he gets herpes at his next circle jerk festival

Take it apart, leave the battery unplugged, dump out what you can(water, bugs, bodily fluids, etc.), put it a sealed container (like plastic storage box) with uncooked dry rice.
Leave it over night.
Hook up the battery, put it back together, turn it on (maybe after charging it) and see if it works.

IF IT IS NO-GO, then go see your genius, as you needz repairing or replacement.

forget everything else save the HDD and insert it into another laptop.

That depends. Do you have Applecare? Applecare that covers being a tard (hardware or someshit)?

If so, leave it the fock alone and let Apple handle it. If not, your going to have to fix your mistake by yourself.

If you have to do it yourself:

1) DO NOT TURN IT ON!!!!!
2) Remove Backplate
3) Remove the battery via the guide above
4) Dump the water
5) Dry the plastic parts with a towel or paper towel (no touching the electronic componets)
6) Wait several days (my personal preference is a week to be 100% it dried up)
7) After time has passed replace the battery and rear panel wipe it down with a towel or something.
8) Cross your fingers and turn it on

If its not completely focked, your good.

Hope this helps.

Stick it in a giant bag/box of uncooked rice for 48 hours it will absorb any left over moisture.
