A fairly straight forward question I hope:

At present I have 2 dell PCs acting as home servers (1 Ubuntu, 1 Windows)
These PCs each have 2 x 512Mb PC2-3200 installed
I want to buy each PC 2 x 1Gb...however PC2-3200 memory is a stupidly high price.

Will PC2-6400 memory work?

Current memory details from CPU-Z

Dram freq - 200MHz
CAS - 3
RCD - 3
RAS -3
Cycle - 8
Volts - 1.8

I am considering New Memory

Any issues that you can see?

Many thanks in advance

Ddr2 doesn`t work in ddr slots, if that`s what you`re asking.

Depends on if your mother boards in those 2 support it or not...You will have to look it up!!

Your motherboard only supports DDR memory, not DDR2. You cannot use DDR2 memory.

The current memory is DDR2 3200

I want to install DDR2 6400 (obviously running and 3200 speeds)

With regard to the motherboards, they are Dell 0H8367, Intel i915P/i915G chipset, Southbridge Intel 82801FB(ICH6)

It looks like i may have answered my own question with the help of Crucials compatibility guide:

Model: Dell Optiplex GX280 (Small form factor)

Number of slots: 2

Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-4200,DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.

I'm now a happy panda and can order my upgrades!

depends on mobo and cpu. what cpu/mobo you have? Nvm i got it. You can buy it if the cpu can handle it.
