I have 3 Gigs of good RAM.......
Is there a gain in system speed if disabling the pagefile ( no swap ? )
Running XP SP2

I would have said yes, there are others that will say don't do it though.Memory is much faster than your harddrive.Saves wear and tear on your hdd armature and bearings into the bargain.

I've just ordered 2x1gb sticks for my system and I will switch mine off when I get them installed. If Windows throws a wobbly I'll just switch it back on and cap it to something small.

Some apps (like photoshop) won't run without a pagefile. If windows doesn't need to use the pagefile it won't - it won't constantly be accessing the pagefile during games (unless you have low RAM), it will chuck anything it wants to in the pagefile when you start loading. I'd say leave it on, you won't notice any performance difference and I believe Windows will still use a pagefile even if you do disable it (not totally sure of that). That way you'll avoid any potential problems.

If you want to see whether it would be worth it the only way is to try and then do some benchmarks, but I doubt you'll be impressed.

Windows wont use a pagefile if disabled and mine is disabled but there is little or no performance gain that I have found TBH.

thanx...all of you....
I did some benchmarking.....and the result is depressing.....
There where no gain ...at all....
So I guess Jimmy 2004 was right......

I've also run into stability issues by disabling the pagefile.
