Current status as of December 5, 2019:
Windows 10, version 1909 is available for any user on a recent version of Windows 10 who manually selects “Check for updates” via Windows Update. The recommended servicing status is Semi-Annual Channel.

Beginning today, we will slowly start the phased process to automatically initiate a feature update for devices running the October 2018 Update (Windows 10, version 1809) Home and Pro editions, keeping those devices supported and receiving the monthly updates that are critical to device security and ecosystem health. We are starting this rollout process several months in advance of the end of service date to provide adequate time for a smooth update process.

For information on how users running Windows 10, version 1903 can update to Windows 10, version 1909 in a new, streamlined way, see this post.

It would be helpful if MS is going to force their "features" on their customers if they would spend some of that 39.2 billion dollars profit for 2019 on some testers to find the flaws before releasing the update. They don't even have to hire a permanent staff to do so. They could take 1/100th of 1 percent of their profit for 2019 and pay 4,000 University Computer Science undergrads $1,000 each to test the features on pretty much every conceivable setup for problems.

They don't force it on people until it has been tested by the few million that update to it before the forced update.

Why would you want to? I can see it necessary to be on the same version for benchmarking, but isn't the system you use for benchmarking already on 1903?

Windows update mini tool -->> auto updates- disabled

Windows update mini tool -->> auto updates- disabled

I don't think that stops them it just pauses the update until it is a culumanative update. I am not sure though

this software creates group policy, and disables updates altogether. You may use the software to check manually for updates and pick and choose.

The timing of this is lousy, as 1909 hasn’t been out long enough to get all the bugs ironed out (I’m assuming they’re taking them straight from 1809 -> 1909 and skipping over 1903). Probably should’ve waited another month.

Nice thanks for the update!!

I won't argue personal preference, but are you at least going to leave the review and bench machine current? Since its being forced on everyday users it will more align with the performance they expect. Be it good or bad.

totally wrong

I've been a longtime user of WUMT (windows update minitool) and it does turn off auto updates - I recently tested WUMT on my dad's Toshiba Satellite C55Dt-A late 2013 laptop with Win10 Home v1809 and it does not even auto download nor auto install any updates

also have set all internet connections (both WiFi and ethernet) to metered on there as well

I need it, efff W10!

I also don't have the 1909 update & my laptop performs very well without it. It's been there in my menu for some time, but I will not select it because of fear something may break. If it's just features, I don't need it.

1809, damn that's me.... well it lasted for a year. Hopefully everything works as intended.

wizzard i can only point ya to the much respected unclewebb and his post

and this you find in his post but i have not tested myself but will be soon:

Can't speak for Wiz, but for me 1909 has a number of compatibility issues that make it an absolute no-go. Recently tested and it's still got issues.

Such as?

1909 has passed comparability testing at my work and we are rolling it out, 1809 never passed it was an unmitigated diaster we went from 1607 to 1803 to 1903 and now 1909.
