Greetings,

I'm currently installing mods for Skyrim and have run into a issue. Its the same issue I've had since Oblivion. I"m running 2 GTX 580s with 1.5GB of memory per card. With the updated textures and mods I'm finding my game very unstable. Last night I removed the texture mods and found the game more stable thou it did crash after a few hours of play. No real biggie b/c most times it crashes right out after a few mins with the new textures installed.

So my question is I"m thinking of getting a 4GB 680. Think it would be worth it? Also I say I've had the issue since Oblivion b/c I had the same thing then so never bothered to play much of the game. Research @ the time showed I was hitting the video memory ceiling and I expect the same here.

So should I, or should I not? Thank you

Skyrim mod is leaking ram somewhere, I don't think getting a card with more ram will solve much problems. Find the offending mod instead?

If you are nuts for Skyrim like I am then I strongly recommend you to get atleast a 3GB card.
It will help, a lot :)

I could send you a link to a forum i'm a admin to and a few others have created for the help of S.T.E.P (Skyrim Total Enhancement Project) you could possably ask for help there maybe fidn out which mods might be causing your problem if it is a mod and maybe some other suggestions to hlep improve your skyrim experience

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm gonna try to do some more fine tuning but I"m really thinking I"m hitting the memory ceiling with the cards. Granted I have 2 1.5gb cards in SLI but from prior tinkering with Oblivion modded I always crashed when I would hit near 1.4ishgb in vram used. So my thoughts are the same here. Every other game is rock solid. Thou I am curious why with the updated textures removed the game crashed after a few hours. Random maybe or a actual mod/texture combo causing issues.

Yeah if you are heavily modding, you will cross that 1.5gb of ram you got. Granted you said you removed texture packs and still had crashing, so something else is going on as well. But getting more vram never hurt anyone.

Alright update: Last night I installed the HD texture pack reduced I found thru the prior S.T.E.P reply...(thank you sooooooo much & I will continue to review the site) and then I removed a couple mods that seemed would have global scripts that might be getting whacked out. Blood loss & lock bash...also a DoF mod thou I'm using Dynavision so no need for both. I played last night for over a hr with no crash thou I had moved away from Whiterun. So we'll see. Also trying out a xbox controller. Seems solid.

@MainframeTM - Update your System Specs.. It says you have 2x 260's so I'm assuming the rest of your hardware has been upgraded as well?
