Youve bumped this thread 3 times in a 24 hour frame - slow down, let someone reply, or edit your original post.

Anyway, Id recommend spending the $60 on moving the internet into room 'x' rather than running wireless, if its possible.

I can't...I don't have that 0 port on the wall thingy in my room.

All of the solutions you posted will work it seems, but wireless is'nt the way to get great speed and pings, you want Ethernet if AT ALL possible for that...

Other wise I'd recommend wireless N gear all through.

Are you parents maybe willing to have Ethernet wired into a few rooms of the house?

My best suggestion is go up into the roof above the modem-ish (cable) and then drop it down in your room, makes for only 2 tiny holes in the roof, that can be plastered up cheap and easy.

Ethernet cable will by far be the winningest way you can possibly connect, I personally would not be satisfied with N wireless I think, not for pings anyway.

But alas, if that is the only way to go, buy good wireless N gear, not worth going cheap with wireless IMO.

I am skeptical about how changing any registry entries would serve to lower your Ping....

I mean I work for an ISP, someone prove me wrong here, but really ping should come down to the physical equipment you use to connect, and how far/how many joins it takes to get your signal back to the big cloud.

Speed and type of connection will also make a difference (ie, Mobile wireless, ADSL, fibre etc) which is why I recommend Ethernet over wireless, you'll have a faster response there.

Given you can't 'mod' the house at all, a good wireless N modem/router and a good PCI card should have you happily gaming away.
