Sup guys, ive recently made a drab transfer from my old trusty CRT monitor to a Samsung Syncmaster 2333HD. With its 1080p glory i thought i was in for a treat and with a 5ms response time, i thought gaming and general ghosting wouldnt be a problem, but the difference was unbearable. I cant play games (CSS, BFBC2) without noticing it. 60fps just dont look like 60fps anymore you know? I was hoping if anyone could recommend some high resolution monitors with relatively low response times if possible. Thanks in advance for any help!

well I dunno about your samsung monitor - but i run this monitor here @ 14ms & Ive never had any trouble with it. reviews have also given it top marks & lag benched it against one of Dells more expensive 24"@4-6ms monitor but its managed to keep up with it with no problems at all.

So if your getting a lot of ghosting etc id say its probably down to a bad panel samsung put in.

take it back to the shop & explain that the screen is not performing to is specifications & you are unhappy with the product - they should refund you (if you wish) or allow you to swap the monitor with another one or a different make/model or similar price

That looks good, ill do some research on it, apparently the GTG timings arent as important as the BTB timings, do you know anything about that?

Im not getting alot of ghosting, but being a CRT gamer, its a problem.

its true BtB is a better comparison (more of a color scale) but coming from a 2ms GtG (and former CRT gamer) i can say i experience no ghosting.

2ms GTG panels like that samsung are used in EVO tournaments instead of CRTs. There was extensive testing to make sure players could still maintain a high level of play while using LCDs.

I've got this monitor (LG FLATRON W2361V) and I game in the FPS genre. It's got 23" diagonal with 2ms response time. The colors and brightness are perfect as soon as you plug it in (no need to adjust anything). Best of all it's very affordable (I paid 249$ CAD at Future Shop).

Thats exactly what i wanted to hear, thanks.

The response times matter, but they are not the end all be all. Make sure you do a little bit of research about the input lag of the panel you are looking at. Most of the time this doesn't matter unless you are getting an IPS or PVA panel, but my last TN panel had more input lag than my current NEC 3090, even though the response time on the TN was better I could still notice the input lag during game play.

Ok i will, shame most sites dont list these details.

Sadly that's true. Best way to find out is to look at reviews or find someone else who has the monitor you are looking for and see if they notice any serious input lag. About 95% of people won't notice any input lag even if it is pretty significant, but if you are an avid gamer then it will make a difference.

I will be gaming, thanks alot.
