my rx590 has been locking up in games and it does work with MSI afterburner. fans work and temps are fine, but some driver issue.

so got a used mis 1070 to replace it. but it doesnt work with its own brand software

in games I always like to up the fan to 70% because I hate the symphany of the fans increasing decreasing so might as well keep it consistent.

but its not working. uninstalled old version, installed new, still no good.

what other programs can I use to control the fans?

how the hell dont your own branded cards not work with your own branded software....

Did you run DDU when you swapped GPUs? You can run into a lot of issues if you don't run DDU on your PC before swapping cards.

Agree that DDU is the best step. Followed by completely removing program and registry values of Afterburner, then reinstall.

Can't rule out OS is at fault either as my recent experience with a freshly installed one proved.

yes ran ddu, then shut down, replaced new card, installed new driver, alls good, unsinstalled ddu.

what programs besides MSIA to control fans?

Rivatuner

FanControl is a good piece of software
It messes up some systems. I ended up reinstalling Windows because the only way the fans stayed reasonable is by having this app running. Haven't found ANY way to uninstall it without making my fans go 100%.
Can't trust an app that can't be uninstalled correctly.

OP, your GPU must have fan control locked for hardware failure or Windows issues reasons. I personally had all sorts of MSI 1070s and all of them had it smooth and easy to control. Do a fresh Windows install and if it doesn't help then your GPU fan controller is likely toast.

Have you repasted the card? I mean, I can't even remember myself when I had to edit a fan curve manually, usually the pre-defined one has worked just fine.

Was going to suggest Fan Control but it's very board and BIOS specific third party software. Never ended up installing it, but it does sound like best case scenario requires having no mobo manufacturer software installed and turning off any "Smart fan control" in BIOS. Unsure exactly what setting that implies, PWM 100%?

yes installed this. but still trying to learn how to use it. seems picky. I cant just slide it over to 70% and it just speeds up. yes, but no. ill play with it

@Ruru just got the card today. it seems to stay cool enough so I havent regooped it yet. I really hate how fans speed up and down so much prefer they run at higher speeds all the time.

ill play with it tomorrow.

I just installed w10 22h2 just a few days ago. I had issues with the rx580 with mirrors edge catalyst game kept locking up so got pissed and went searching for an nvidia card. as much as I hate leather boy, there are no issues with drivers. although the rx580 seems to be working nicely on the w7 pc I moved it too.

ill see with the fan control program. curious why it was so hard to uninstall it. reminds me like that piece of shet norton way back when that completely posseses your pc.

Afterburner will indeed work with both cards. If you are having problems, it is almost certainly an issue with your setup. I've used it with multiple examples of both rx500 series and geforce 1000 series (both msi and non). Be sure you have afterburner and rtss off/disabled (or hell, even uninstalled) while you are doing all your ddu driver and card swapping.

As i understand it, MSi sponsors Unwinder for afterburner in order to have naming rights, but doesn't own it.

Speaking of Unwinder, he is a very talented programmer, but I wouldn't bother him with this problem.......you might not like the answer.

Did you try all modes Afterburner can do fan control ?

Any changes in fan speed [RPM] and/or fan usage [%], in GPU-z (when adjusting your fan speed) ?

What exact model of "MSI 1070" do you have ?
Do you have any pictures of your card's fans ?

No way, it does the exact same thing to me. Unless the program is running aio fans go 100%. Nevertheless, I still like to use it because it has that unique feature where it only drops fan speed by 1% per second. So for example if I have my fan set to ramp up at 80. and they are hovering between 79 - 81 the fans don't GO UP DOWN UP DOWN UP DOWN which drives me nuts. So this way, it can ramp up fast as needed but always slows down slow so its less noticeable. That ability is worth dealing with that weird bug imo.

thats my issue. the rx590 has this annoying thing that for no reason whatsoever out of the blue just spins its fans at like 100% for like 3 seconds. just randomly. I want to rip it out and throw it at the wall. what the hell is that for. first and last amd card ill ever get. I never had this with any nvidia.

I want fans to run consistently and why I need to control the fans cause I hate the up and down up and down high low noises. for all I care run all the fans at higher speeds like 70-80% and leave it there

Well I would definitely recommend fan control then. Here, I've taken a screenshot so you can get a rough idea how it works. You just gotta create a graph type object at the bottom and then link it to the fan you want. And I circled where you can put the 1% down per second thing.

I use it for CPU but you can do the same for gpu.

And I'm totally the same way, liking as little change in fan noise as possible.

But just a reminder - you may have the issue me and BMD do, where when the program is closed the fans can do all kinds of weird things. So just have it open with windows and it should be fine except for perhaps while you're booting up.

EDIT: Oh yeah and with this app, you need to save changes after you close the ui for the effect to stick. I believe it gives you dialogue box to ask.
