Multiple internet connections

Hello everybody, I am considering getting 4 adsl2+ connections for my house to enable my server 24x7 uptime, and ofcourse so me and my internet addicted missus can also play some games from time to time. I want to link/connect them up with a multi wan router or load balancer or whatever other interesting names these wonderful devices might have. I realise that these might actually be 2 seperate devices, and if so, which do i want, need or would be best suited to the situation.

I was hoping and wondering if anyone has any experience with setting up such a device, is it hard, are there any things i need to consider?

I also dont really know much about who makes these things and what are good brands, so some suggestions would be excellent?! It would be most ideal if you have had hands on experience with such device, however something that comes highly rated in a review will also be fine!

Your ISP has to support this function or it won't really work, and most home ISPs don't.

You can get a multi-WAN router that will allow fallover, so if one connection goes down, the other will pick up and you won't have any down time. However, combining the connections to use them together for faster speeds isn't possible with most home connections.

it will work just fine with anything that use's multiple connections such as torrents or segmented downloads...


the key here is downloading 25% of each file on each connection if you have 4.
download accelerators can help with this by connecting multiple times to the same server.
(anything single threaded will not go faster then the maximum speed of 1 connection.)




windows7 can handle the load balance if you have 4 network cards and 4 modems.
