They all run hot - try increasing the fan speed to around 65-70%? Here in Malta its so hot i have to leave it at 100% when in-game...sounds like a jet.

Not so abnormal, they normal work temperature with stock coolers are 80+ C.

No thats VERY high for his card. I own two like the one he has. For a reference card thats ok. Not for an EAH4850. At the most you should be at 65c idle.

Three suggestions: 1. Take off the cooler and redo the TIM on the GPU. 2. Increase the fan speed to 70% while gaming. 3. Liquid cooling. It will never get above 50C. :cool:

The Asus EAH4850 looks like a reference card to me:

He doesn't specify he got the HTDI version (which does got the glaciator cooling), but rather the normal, reference EAH4850

I hate IF's. If he have that version, he should see 7x at most under load so, yeah, maybe is bad tim but if is the reference one, is just fine.

I'd still re-TIM it anyway, just to be safe. You might find some flaw with the way the cooler was attached. Make sure you also have adequate air-flow in your case.

Have you tried using GPUTool to adjust fan settings?

It's far from complete, but might work well for you.

I agree, take the cooler off, clean the thermal crap off asus use and put some AS Ceramique on. Also worth checking the cooler base surface where the core makes contact, if its pitted that will be another cause for high GPU temps: bad surface area.
