last week i saved up to buy a new psu-600 Ocz stealth, CPU- intel dual 8500, DDR2 Ocz Reaper 4 gigs 1033, and the coolermaster V8 fan. after putting everything together, i had to reinstall and after updating all windows XP pro to SP3, then the soundcard and network card, it froze at the installation for the Asus eah4890,,i uninstalled it and downloaded it from both AMD and Asus websites and both resulted in succesfull installions( meaning no error messages), but upon rebooting after the post it gives out a `no signal` message and reboots, then says the message again.
Now, after spending today reinstalling everything mentioned before, going thru various forums, a lot of others too have this problem, more with the same wattage of Psu as mine(600), yet not all where answered or the ones with some did not work for me, where i bought it said i can bring in my pc so they can look at it, but i dont want to be without a pc for 1-2 weeks as is, now 1st off i never got the fake leather pad, but everything i did, i think the munchkin at the store kept it, i am using a HDMI-DVI adapter to my Acer H233H 23``Lcd, previous ATI card didnt have a problem with this connection. i tried swtiching DVI ports but still have the same issue, i am running now on generic driver, i have the smartdoc to see whats going on but accoeding to that i have no problem, i tried older Drivers from AMD yet same issue. i have ben on this pc since 8am, it is now 4;51pm,,i am brain dead. I wrote here cause i found everyone to be more mature and helpfull then the other forums i have ben on. so thank you to any replies and comments( yes u can call me an arse),
Andrew

are you using the old hdmi->dvi adapter or the one that came with the asus card?
try the card on a normal monitor to see if it works there

regarding that leather thingie, do you have the superml capacitor card or the "normal" one ?

I have the SuperML version,,which i bought after reading this very review. since i was on a budget i went with the best video card ATI has out. i did try with my old 19`` lcd,,i got the same thing. after installing any of the drivers from ati or the asus websites it reboots, then gives the `no signal` message then reboots. im about to throw this out my window following my cell phone after i called the company were i bought it from, sorry i forgot to add i tried 2 adapters for the HDMI, the one that came with the board and my previous one made of gold, or so it says.
Andrew
i forgot to mention, this one has a 6pin and looks like an 8pin for the card, now with the card came 2 6pins, not 8,,but with my Ocz psu there is 2 6pinSLI powerplugs with one of them having this single wire to the side, i plugged that in along side the 2 6pins, i think the fact im able to see this now under the generic driver it does work, but do you think this might be the case?

So if i understand this right, once you install drivers, and reboot, the pc will continuously reboot once it hits windows due to `no signal`?

Sounds to me that the card is trying to turn on all it's abilities (once the drivers are installed) and runs out of power... check that the PSU is plugged into the card correctly and i'm not fully sure that - that PSU is enough for everything u stated, especially that monster card.

uh,,i just found the twin 6pin to 8 pin power connector, i must have droped it out of the box, im so tired i didnt look around much, so im powering off and replugging the card, then see what happens, wish me luck. im still mad i didnt get the faux leather pad,,im hoping its cause i didnt put the 8pin and i just put in both 6pins in ,,,i cant afford anymore upgrades for a long time.

going thru various forums, a lot of others too have this problem, more with the same wattage of Psu as mine(600), yet not all where answered or the ones with some did not work for me

In fact that statement alone leads me to believe that you do not have enough PSU for the whole system.

as far as i know the card wont work with 6+6 and requires 6+8 to function

and if you are tired, better go sleep and do it when you are relaxed. much less chance of mistakes.

well,,i got somewhat a better performance,,im happy,,its no longer choppy but still refuses to load after installing the driver but now the windows installer plug and play actually names the asus 4890 card,,i put in the 8pin power connector that came with the card, used the 2 6pin PCI cords from the psu,,removed the power connector from the HDD`s and used it mainly for the card, image is better and less choppy. and now i see a boost in speed overall as well. YET, i noticed 4 small red LED`s right over where you plug in the power connectors on the video card and 3 light up, the 1st on the left and last 2 on the right. i am not aware if all 4 need to light up or not. for now im going to bed, i work tonight and im frazzled, i thank you for your replies as it helped me out instead of going thru programs its obviously a hardware issue.

The lights are used for diagnostics, google them and you'll get your results. If you used the included adapters for the plugs make sure to plug them into separate rails on that psu to give you the best possibly, but to be honest your PSU is too weak for your setup, everything u keep saying suggests it,

removed the power connector from the HDD`s and used it mainly for the card, image is better and less choppy.

Between that and the previous quotes.... you need more juice baby, get their stealth 700 or go with a game extreme also by OCZ but bump it up 100 watts or so to be safe.

Get some sleep and concentrate on work, leave the damn pc alone for a while

well,,i returned the card at microbytes in greenfeild park,,idiot turd brain who got me to pay an extra 30$ for 4 yrs warranty on the card 1st didnt want nothing to do with it, finally got it switched to a Saphire card, same specs 4890...now im having the same issues,,so i guess in the end it is my psu, even though on the box it says 500wtts should be enough,,in the end i had to pay over 80$ to switch cards and 40$ for them to plug in the mobo, i`ll buy a new psu wen i get enough for it, for now im using the generic windows drivers to run this,,i am beyond in contempt with them muchkins, i expected that behavior at best buy not microbytes..
thank you to all with your help,
as for the adapters, yes i used the ones that came with both cards and the twin 6pin from the psu and i isolated them to only go on the GPU, i kept the 8pin one of the old card, what i like about the saphir version it is not as long so its a comfy fit on my mobo,,but i was worried i might have damaged the mobo but i guess if i did i wouldnt be on this forum.

his powersupply is an OCZ stealthxstreme 600W with four 18A rails. its enough, i ran 4870 crossfire off mine for a while before i went corsair.

It *is* enough for what he is trying to do.

I would be expecting the problem to be related to the HDMI adaptor, or the monitor. Can you try another screen, or another connection type? (VGA/DVI)

those other issues sound like software, since you're already having problems the easiest path is to format and start fresh. Having software and hardwre issues at the same time will only make it harder to troubleshoot.

at a guess, your HDMI adaptor may not be compatible with your new card. You may need an ATI branded one (ebay for it, you need the grey model)

well as it is,everything is working flawlessly, i wouldve never have guessed it was the HDMI adapter, although in every case i used it with previous cards, all AGP, i always used the one that came with the card. the monitor never gave me issues. although i have now found a download from amd website for an HDMI i think i`ll leave my system as is, Crysis on high settings at min.40 FPS? im happy, and my blue ray movies never looked better.as for my windows issues it was due to not activating it,,that was stupidity on my part. enjoy the weekend everyone and thanks again for all the tips and reminding me to stop paniking and do a little more checking around.

the HDMI adaptors changed a little with the 4K cards, because ATI wedged a 7.1 sound card in there :)

you need their adaptor to get audio - i've had no trouble with an Nvidia (XFX branded) HDMI adaptor, i just dont get audio with it.

You just got 'lucky' with a one in a million incompatibility.
