I recently bought a PC with i5-11400 CPU , MSI Z490 gaming edge wifi motherboard , Corsair CX 650 PSU, DDR4 Gskill Tridenz 3600 RAM. My PC sometimes works, Sometimes it doesn't turn on at all, but power comes to the mobo as I checked it. I tried Jumping the power Pin too, it it didn't work either. This happens like more than 50 times over the couple of 3 months. But my mystery is when I remove the power cable and change a different one it works for any hours. but when I turn off my PC and try to turn on a couple of hours later again it will not work even with the new power cable that I changed just before. I removed my PSU and put in another PC then the power supply is working fine with another PC. I also checked with multiple different power outlets too. so PSU cant be the culprit. Does anybody have any idea what could be the cause. bcz it happens sometimes totally randomly

Power button cable

No, I tried turning on the PC directly by touching power pin with a screw driver. It doesn't work. when I change a different power cable to the PSU it works but only a few times though. that's the issue. then again I need to change the power cable to make it work the next day

Sounds like there a loose screw dangling somewhere in your case.
Is inside your case clean with good cable management. Nothing is behind your motherboard and side panel?

I had a pretty decent cable management but only after this issue came, I removed and tested all sorts of components, and only because of that, my cable management is now not that good. but there is no way there can be a screw anywhere or anything conductive touching the case. I thoroughly checked it a few times. I have assembled and troubleshot many PCs, but this is the very first freaking time. I am facing such a weird issue. I will be happy even if my freaking motherboard dies bcz it still has got 2.5 years warranty. it sometimes works totally fine for a weak or two but after that it will start acting nonsense randomly everytime I turn on. Thats why when I once took it to the PC store to claim a warranty it worked fine there. again when I took it back home, it worked well at that night but in the morning it didn't turn on. pretty weird.

MSI RTX 3060 gaming x 12GB. But I removed my GPU card and checked with onboard VGA as well. FYI

Backup your data then take/send it back! Don't do something that might void any warranty.
I took it back to the pc store where I bought this from. when they checked it , it worked fine for them. so they said that unless they see an issue they cannot send it back to the distributor. since it is quite random . I just don't know what to do with this

what happens after this? will it work when you change back to the first power cable.

I'm thinking your problem is not actually swapping the cables. but the heat instead. maybe when you change the cables, you're giving your PC enough time to cool down. or may be one of the cables is faulty.

What did you get to pc store? the power supply, or everything?

oh gosh!. I turned off my PC last night after work. it was working fine. when I tried to turn it on the next morning (today). it just didn't turn on. I just removed the power cable from PSU and again plugged the same power cable then it worked. sometimes I have to repeat this process a few times to get it to work. sometimes I need to swap my monitor power code with my PC power code. even then it doesn't always work it is just 50/50. so power cable cant be the issue. I removed this power supply (corsair CX650) and put it in another PC. but the other PC was turning on and off as expected without any issues. I tried this for a whole month since this issue was randomly happening. so I came to the conclusion the PSU is all good. I checked my computer in neighbour's house as well. it didn't work there either. I think I am the only one out of the billions of people getting this freaking issue. I'mi have really lost hope. every single component is brand new. and the funniest part is, the only reason for me to get an all brand new PC is that I got this exact issue in my old PC it was a nuisance to my regular work. But here I am again.

You seem to be at the mercy of your retailer which is unfortunate. I would try recording the process on my phone to try to catch the computer not working on video. Perhaps make a few videos and try returning to the retailer with those. Maybe ask them to keep it a few days so they can actually experience the issue.

Well get your data off and make it permanent :)

hi Anfas,

I had the same issue recently with my old i7-7700K cpu + Gigabyte Z270 extreme gaming 9 mobo.

I replaced them with = i9=9900K cpu + Gigabyte Z390 gaming X mobo and the issue hasn't happened again over the last 6 months.

The likely culprit was the mobo.
