Need a future proof PSU upgrade. Spend extra for AX series?

So Corsair is running a sweet deal if you buy a new PSU from them, you can get a fully colored sleeved cable kit from them free, which are close to $100 each depending on model.

I'm still running on my reliable Antec New TruePower 550w that I got as a warranty replacement after my Antec NeoWatt 500 died a few years ago. Its powering my evga 670 FTW and i5 2500k @ 4.6ghz with no issues. However, the factory sleeving is falling apart, its not totally modular and thus, has some legacy cables that I never use and its not capable of doing SLI if I decide to go for another 670 FTW down the road and power whatever CPU I decide to upgrade too. And its sad really, Antec has been a brand that I've loved for years for cases and PSU's but they just arn't what they used to be back in the 2000's and I think its time to say goodbye before this PSU also dies on me as it would be my 3rd Antec failure in 10 years.

I do really like that the AX series is fully modular and that I can get a sleeve kit for it and not deal with that myself. However, I know the HX series is VERY popular and got a great review on Hard OCP and that a newer Version 2 out now and the newegg reviews on the HX series is awesome. The AX doesn't have as many reviews but seems to have a solid record, but I dunno if its been "revised" yet or not.

I was planning on going up to 850watts so I have the power for whatever comes down the road in the future in the years to come. Any thoughts on this?

AX is really as god or better than the HX series. I think they have been revised to AX XXXi series...

That said, yeah, great choice. HOwever, 850W I would only get if I knew I was going SLI/CrossfireX with monster cards, overclocking them, and the CPU to the max... (even then 750W is fine, but 850W gives more headroom for the non believers, LOL!).

Did the math personally just to see how it would balance out. If I got the AX850 from Corsair w/free colored sleeve cable kit being offered along with basic shipping = $245.31

Getting the AX850 from Newegg then buying cable sleeved kit from Corsair along with basic shipping costs = $264.41

So I still save about $20 with the Corsair cable deal. Just also learned that the Corsairs also come with a insane 7 year warranty! Wow, i'd never have to worry about a PSU again for a long time, especially if I move outa state and can't afford one for awhile wether due to upgrade reasons or this Antec one dies. So tempting....

Their corsair link software for their water cooling kits and now for their new Platinum PSU lineups can also be software monitored/controled

I'd go with either the HX or AX series, depending on which is cheaper. They are both solid units. And while the HX isn't fully modular the only non-modular connectors are the 24-pin, the 8-pin CPU, and two 8-pin GPU connectors. Which any system that needs an 850w unit will definitely be using.

However, since the HX isn't fully modular, the non-modular connectors won't benefit from the individually sleeved cable set. So you will have some individually sleeved cables and some not.

Thats the the thing, right now Corsair has a deal if you buy a new PSU from them, you get a fully individually cable sleeved cable kit for free and with the AX series, that means ALL the cables including 24pin and 8 pin power are sleeved as well vs the HX series PSU which are not removable unless I sleeve them myself which I DO NOT want to do.

Yep, your only option with the HX would be to buy individually sleeved extenders for the attached cables, and you aren't guaranteed they would match the ones you get from Corsair for the rest of the cables. Plus that makes a ton of extra cable to hide in your case.

I'd go with the AX series in your situation.

I don't save alot more money going with the 750watt vs the 850 watt, only $30 on Corsairs website and the free colored cable sleeving kit offer is VERY tempting as thats $60 right there vs buying the PSU from Newegg and buying cable kit seperately.

Well then, could I even power a dual SLI setup down the road if I was running just the AX650 watt? Cause the $30 difference between the AX750 and AX850 is small enough for me to just go for 850watt but if you people really think that upcoming hardware, especially CPU's and GPU's could feed off a 650watt AX650 even if I went dual SLI which is the only SLI I would spend the money for, then I would get the AX650 and free sleeved cable kit ground shipped for about $180 from corsair
