Hi all,

I’m planning to gift a gaming PC to my younger brother for his birthday. I don’t have much ideas about computers. I discussed with one of my friends to manually configure a gaming PC. He send me a link of the PC configuration and he knows how to assemble it. He suggested me to buy a custom rack mount to assemble the PC. What is the best option to assemble, rack mount or default PC cabinet? I searched online and found a sheet metal fabricator who designs custom racks. Has anyone tried assembling the PC on rack mount? Please advise. Waiting for your reply.

Thanks in advance.

post the link please. A couple of pics of your mates previous builds might be handy too.

Are you associated in any way with the fabricator you linked?

So...how much money are you made of? Custom sheet metal fabrication is not going to be cheap...and building a rack PC for somebody's first setup is...well it's like getting a person with a driver's permit a Ferrari to drive. It's definitely possible to be reasonable with that...but for 99.99% of people it's going to be silly.

How this stuff usually goes is:
1) You specify a budget you have to work within.
2) You specify use case. This would be something like playing games (listing off those games), and desired usage (attached to TV, stand-alone, etc...).
3) You then provide a rough idea of where you want to buy from, so pricing can be established.
4) Nerds do the work for you, and give you a list of parts
You get somebody you trust to check the shopping list. Do you have a PSU, OS, and case? Will they work together? Ask questions.
5) You finalize the order, purchase, and whenever parts come in you ask about how in hades you put it together.
6) You ask about the BIOS, setup, and other basic things that your friend didn't explain to you...because building a computer is "easy."
7) You get everything running eventually, discover that it's not as easy as you thought, and either endeavour to get better or buy a console next time.
8) Nerds flame you from both sides, but you stop giving a crap because now you get to enjoy something you built. Yay.

Do you have a point?

Isn't it obvious ?...

If you hover your mouse over it's avatar you can see that he has last been seen on April 8, 2017...

And I believe we're almost 2024?...

I'm seeing a person who opened an account years ago....has done nothing, but is asking for help. Am I missing something? Please, what am I not seeing?
That's not the account opening date. That's the date he posted - so you're answering a 5 and a half year-old question.

In this case that user also created his account on the posting date, Feb. 10 2017 but has last been seen on April 8, 2017, but yeah it's not worth replying in this case...
