HI

I'm thinking of buying a new monitor to replace my pg348q which has some backlight bleeding, is "only 100hz" and some issues of flickering.

I'm hesitating between two monitors and I'd really like your opinion :

LG 34GK950F-B

https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-34GK950F-B-gaming-monitor (1100€ in france, more expensive over here)

or MPG341CQR

https://www.msi.com/Monitor/Optix-MPG341CQR

the LG seems to have better color but might have some backlight bleed and IPS glow (I read some review of people who said they were lucky to have none and other with complainds about it.)

THe MSI is not IPS so there can't be any issues of that kind but I read that the colors might be not as good.

Thanks

What do you prefer? IPS or TN panels? Mostly RPG/ single player FPS games or competitive multiplayer FPS & MOBA?

I don't really know , I always had IPS I think.

I play a bit of everything actually..

The new xiaomi one? 144hz va with a really nice price.

Typically fans of IPS stick with IPS

If competitive games are your drug of choice then the low response time of the MSI is what you want

ips product better image quality, while tn panel having fastest response time ever, also va quite balancing on it, if you do like curved uktrawide go for va is better choic, forget abt ips/va panel if you like to play competive games:)

Not really competitive, I play everything but not for competition.

I'm just afraid of lottery of IPS glow but also I read that the MSI might have worse colors and might have ghosting

I used to love my actual monitor but those flickering issue and ips glow / light bleed is annoying

Would you go for the LG? Or maybe there are another monitor I haven"t thought about

VA and IPS both have their pros and cons. Depends on the types of games you're playing and if you value your dark scenes in games, or color reproduction. With VA (not the msi panel specifically) there will probably be a bit of smearing. IPS will have some degree of glow.

I owned the 34GK950-G for a short while, and that was my first IPS panel. No backlight bleed but noticable IPS glow that bothered me in the lower left corner of the screen, to the point where I had to return it. I value my dark scenes because I play a lot of horror games, so my eyes were constantly drawn to it like a deer in headlights. I went straight for OLED technology and I'm very happy with it. Got it last black friday and never looked back. I'll never use a backlit display again.

Both IPS and VA could have clouding, back light bleed, etc. but VA seems to be a better choice in that lottery.

In the end your decision will be what you can tolerate so to speak. If you're afraid of glow, VA might be better for you.

I have seen minor edge bleed on IPS panels that honestly I completely forgot about unless I truly went looking for it.

But ghosting isn't an issue on VA?

Actually the bleed I can do with i can fix it with some led on the back of the screen, worked with my ASUS

va is better i suposse, its balancing on image&response time, close enough for 3ms gtg, while ips is hardly hit 4gtg even with useless vrb 1ms mode(it display very dark), i peronally chose ips, but think va with ultrawide have a special case, your choice btw:)

the ghosting can be fixed by todays tech, used freesync/gsync/vsync just make sure to cap the fps if you do chose vsync:)

Nice one but no gsync / freesync

I remember having a monitor with a lot of ghosting it was really making me sick, maybe I should stick with ips?

I've been using 32", 43", & 55" Sammy's almost exclusively (at home- 7 total, & at my Virtual Design/CAD shop- 83 & growing total) for many years now & have not had any of the issues mentioned by the OP....

But overall Sammy has a well-established record of high quality and reliability that has served me extremely well.

And as a side note, all of my appliances are Sammy too, neveranottaproblemo :)

motion clarity and smearing is part of the issue with VA. With IPS its glow that's the issue. Good LG IPS will minimize that however.
In the end it comes to down what you value less, va smearing or ips glow.
Personally I avoid VA panels since i need that clear motion (LG's newest IPS panel is pretty much on par with your average TN) and regardless of which IPS I choose it needs to not have overshoot problems on the commonly used overdrive profile. I'm not sure on the ultrawides tho, I would assume that LG in your link does use the latest so if reviews are to be believed for the 16:9 version it should have minimal glow.

Currently I have an EIZO S2411W, 24" 16:10, 1920x1200 monitor that has a samsung S-PVA panel, 60Hz, 16ms On/Off with overdrive (6ms Gray to Gray) bought in 2007 for 1300€ and until today works sweet.
No noticable lags or ghosting, no bleeding...

nothing wrong with TN panel if you sit infront of it.. only spectators complain ;)

So you would advise me to go for the LG?

yes you should stick with ips, its give us better inage quality, i used ips almost 2years now, its hard to goback for tn, only downgrade from 1440 to 1080p, pay for the same ips model(bit annoying becouse of antiglare protector),
