Hi All:

I'd very much appreciate any help I can get with this question: I just replaced my A64 3200+ with an FX-55 San Diego 2.6GHz 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor. My mobo is an MSI Neo2 K8n Platinum. I dropped in the new processor, and all is well, except my 3D Mark 06 Score is 2234--Less than my 3200+! I'm sure I do not have something set right (memory?); can anyone tell what I am doing wrong? I've attached CPU-Z screenshots for the CPU and Memory.

Additionally, what is the correct AGP aperature size for my card? I have a eVGA GeForce 6800 GT AGP 256MB.

Here is how the board is set up:

Memory Specs: Kingston

  • Tech Spec Capacity 512MB Speed DDR 266 (PC 2100) Cas Latency 2.5 Voltage 2.5V
  • Clock Cycle Time (tCK) 7.5ns (min.) / 15ns (max.)
  • Row Cycle Time (tRC) 65ns (min.)
  • Refresh Row Cycle Time (tRFC) 75ns (min.)
  • Row Active Time (tRAS) 45ns (min.) / 12,000ns (max)

In CoreCell:

  • Current CPU Clock: 2613
  • Current DDR Clock: 133

  • DRAM Configuration-> Timing Mode: Manual
  • X Memclock Index Value (Mhz): 133Mhz
  • X CAS# Latency (Tcl): 2.5
  • X Min RAS# active time (Tras): Auto
  • X RAS# to CAS# delay (Trcd): Auto
  • X Row Precharge Time (Trp): Auto
  • Bottom of 32-Bit [31:24] IO: E0
  • 1T/2T Memory time: 2T
  • S/W Memory Hole Remapping: Disabled
  • H/W Memory Hole Remapping: Disabled

  • High Performance Mode: Manual
  • Aggressive Timing: Disabled
  • Dynamic Overclocking: Disabled
  • Clock Spread Spectrum: Disabled
  • HT Frequency: 5x
  • Cool 'n' Quiet: Auto
  • Adjust CPU Ratio: x13
  • Adjust CPU FSB Frequency: 200
  • Adjust AGP Frequency: 66
  • Adjust CPU VID: StartUp
  • CPU Voltage: By CPU VID
  • Memory Voltage: 2.5V
  • AGP Voltage: 1.50 V

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

Thank You,

Michael Tschirret

One thing is for sure that your memory is a major bottleneck, both in speed and size. AGP aperature size is like backup memory...but its not needed, set it to the smallest amount. Also my FX doesnt perform great on the nforce3 chipset when it comes to 3dmarks.

Thanks...Are my motherboard settings at least correct for the processor?

what ram do oyu have is this really a pc-266 ram?
otherwise it would be odd
and for some reasons look if your athlon 64 driver is installed and maybe reinstall windows
both might help

The RAM is DDR266 SDRAM, 184 pin...There are (2) 512MB sticks. Could this be my problem? I have installed an AMD 64 Driver, but how can I be sure it is the right one?

Thanks,

MJT

is'nt the ram better off being ddr400?.your ram is only at 133/266 on cpuz, your fsb is at 201.you need ddr400/pc3200 ram

Single Core, Correct?

I'm assuming that I do NOT want to download the Dual Core utilities, correct? Are there drivers I should download for the FX-55, specifically this one?

AMD Athlon™ 64/FX Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (x86 and x64 exe) 1.3.2.16 - Allows the system to automatically adjust the CPU speed, voltage and power combination that match the instantaneous user performance need. Download this Setup Installation program (EXE) to automatically update all the files necessary for installation. This package is recommended for users whom desire a graphical user interface for installation. This .EXE driver is a user friendly localized software installation of the driver designed for end-users. This driver supports AMD Athlon 64/FX processors on Windows XP SP2, Windows 2003 SP1 x84 and x64 Editions.

And this one is listed on the FX-55 page as well; what about this one?

AMD Dual-Core Optimizer - The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core processor systems, by periodically adjusting the core time-stamp-counters, so that they are synchronized.

Thank You,

MJT

Whoops! MY bad....

The dual-core optimizer is ok but not the driver.
