Long story short, we got cable internet installed and I need some configuration help with my routers.

Router2 is a wired gateway. Router1 is wired and wireless. I have them wired like this... (port(router)port)

Computer/network lan printer------>(lan(router2)wan)----->(lan(router1)wan)----->modem.

The computer's IP is static 192.168.15.100
The printers IP is static 192.168.15.120
The router2 IP is static 192.168.0.100
The router1 IP is assigned by DHCP from the modem.

I put the computer in DMZ. The internet works on the computer. Also all my wifi computers work. The problem is that none of the computers on router1 can see the printer on the other side of router2. I tried forwarding port 9100(printer) to 192.168.15.120. I also turned on remote management on router2 and all computers can see the router2's setup pages.

Hopefully someone follows me and has some ideas. I don't need the firewall in router2. Router1 serves as my firewall. Router one is running DD-WRT by the way. Both are Linksys.

EDIT - I'm sort of just trying to use router2's WAN port as an uplink to router1

Here is how I would set it up.

Computer/network lan printer------>(lan(router2)lan)----->(lan(router1)wan)----->modem

Now, there are some things you will need to do before connecting it in this setup.

First, disconnect router2 from router1. Then configure router2 to have a static IP address in the DHCP range of router1(192.168.0.50 or something like that). Then disable DHCP on router2. Then connect router2 as shown in my diagram above. Finally give the Printer a static IP in the DHCP range of router1(192.168.0.120 or something like that).

You will probably have to reconfigure the printer ports used on the different computers to point to the new printer IP.

Basically, what you are doing is turning router2 into a wired switch, this eliminates most of the confusion caused by running an internal network inside another internal network.

Yeh pretty much. A swich or a hub however you look at it. I don't know if the ports are autoswitching and neither router has an uplink port that I saw.

Router 1 and Router 2 need to be on the same network. whats Router 1's IP. I assume you are using subnet mask 255.255.255.0

I have the routers doing their job as routers as far as the internet goes. Even utorrent shows the ports open in router1 because router2 has the utorrent computer in DMZ. The trick is getting the printer on router2 to show up on router2's WAN side.

Router2's Gateway address is 192.168.15.1 and router1's is 192.168.0.1

It shouldn't need to be autoswitching, you should be able to use a standard straight through to connect the two routers...but I could be wrong...

I'll try it.

EDIT - nvm I can't It's only a 3-port hub in the back. 2 computers and a printer in the office are on router2. Router1 is the firewall and distributes wifi to laptops around the house. All the laptops need to be able to print and they can't see the printer on the other side of router2.

EDIT - Tried it. Still didn't work. Only the computers on router2 can see the printer.

I guess the question is... How do I set up router2 so the LAN printer shows up on the WAN port?

You can't, AFAIK. But to test, put the printer in DMZ and see if the computers connected to router1 can see it.

it should look something like this .. if it make sense at all
--------------------------DHCP-----------Static------------DHCP-----------Ext. DHCP
Comp/ printer>---------<lan--------(router2)------wan>----<lan-------(router1)----wan>mod
PC----192.168.15.110>-<192.168.15.100/192.168.0.200>----<192.168.0.100/169.254.xxx.xxx>
PRT--192.168.15.120>/

:confused::confused::confused:

Everything works great except that damn printer. I thought maybe the port was wrong so I tried the printer on dmz... -fail-

I gave up. A buddy has a 8 port netgear he's going to loan me.

you need to disable any and all routing features (DHCP, NAT, firewalls) on the router, and turn it back into being a switched hub.

it will be far, far easier to just buy a switch than to mess around with this.

That's the route I'm going to go. I was just trying to use what I had laying around but unfortunatly I can't make the router dumb enough. :D
