My monitor only has vga, dvi, and display while my pc only has hdmi and vga. I already tried setting it to the DVI channel. Could it be the cable itself? I’m using a cpu with dedicated graphics (no gpu) and monitor model is HP Compaq LA2205wg

I notice you have it plugged into your motherboard. Are you running integrated graphics, or do you have a dedicated GPU? If you have a GPU, you'll (generally) need to plug it into the Video Card, not the motherboard.

Quadruple check that the DVI-end of the cable is fully inserted, and that there are no bent-over pins. I've had a few DVI cables I 'mucked up' w/ pins completely collapsed and shorting (while feeling fully-inserted).

Also:
-HDMI is based off Single-Link DVI-D. (this 'shouldn't' be an issue in your case. 1680x1050 should be fine over old single-link DVI-D.)
-Some cables are unidirectional.

How can you tell if it’s unidirectional or bidirectional? It was never stated when I ordered it. Also the pins aren’t bent, and the screws are tight. I’m using integrated graphics

You might need a HDMI to DVI-D cable instead.

What pc model

DVI single link signalling is identical to HDMI, minus audio. More specifically HDMI v1.0 is identical to DVI. I have both adapters and complete cables and I have used them both ways before, but I can't say if that is universal or not. Either way, I would start by testing a different cable/adapter.

Also, dual link DVI is not compatible with HDMI since it is "only" two identical channels bundled for one signal. HDMI have no such mode.

Can you take a picture of DVI side of your connector ? (so that pins are all visible)
