need help with crossfire...

simple question... to install the drivers for the cards, do you have to leave the bridge connector off? i cant get the driver to install and i'm wondering if there is anything else i should try.

also... how the hell do you get rid of the old drivers? i've tried drivercleaner, and ccleaner... neither have worked.
 
I have found the 8.x series Cat drivers to be quite tenacious! They seem to be storing info from the previous installation somewhere.
They also seem to have some sort of automatic driver loading when you install a second card. Very different from the 7 series drivers.

I would suggest leaving the bridge off during install. I personally like to install one card, load drivers, power down,install second card, power down, install bridge, ENJOY!

Let us know what happens. Heck if all else fails, go back to 7.11 for a while!
 
i cant..... 7.x drivers dont work for the 3870x2.
 
When I switched from ATI to Nvidia years ago I just went in to control panel and uninstalled display drivers and got them out. But I will be keeping an eye on this because I might be going back to ATI if the 9800s dont work out.

Only thing I can think is to install the X2 (primary), load drivers.
Power down, install 3780, boot, either: let Cat load the driver OR go to Device Manager and "Update Driver" and point wizard to original install folder.
Power down, install bridge, go, GO, GOOOOOOOO!!
 
@viczulis i just switched when i got my 3870x2. it's the best damn card i've ever had... and i've had EVERY SINGLE 8 series nvidia card.

@ DR. Spankenstein YES, tri-fire a go. i have the 8.3 beta's and looking for the ATI ftp server address to DL the official release. explain your methods please.

Its that much better than my GTX and the new cards coming out ? I'm just waiting for 9800s
to come out and than compare. Right now it just seems to be alot of assuming etc. I want to see hard facts on the 9800s. Also waiting on new CPUs. But x2 is looking pretty dam good.

nvidia hasnt stepped it up this year... they have the same old stuff, just in a new package and tweaked a bit more. i strongly believe ati will take the lead for this year.(and i used to be a NVIDIA fanboy... so i dont want to hear any BLAH, BLAH, BLAH from anyone)

Good, Just thought that was funny, Yea you got to go with whos on top. Never was a fanboy of either just try to go with the best I can at the moment.
 
so i need to install the driver with ONLY the x2 in... then reboot and add the 3870 in with the x2? and it will work? i've got the 8.3 drivers already.

damn shit locks up vista. I think this 3870 is bad. It works fine until vista loads and then lines appear on the screen. Shit!
 
Are they green? just turn the fan speed up if you can. I dont think you can with crossfire tho.

You haven't tried the 3870 by itself?

ShadowFold has a point though. Sounds like heat issue.
 
Can you check the temps before it does that?

not heat... card is dying. that's probably why it was a return. im gonna RMA it. i am running it alone right now. i can see with it but it sucks bad. pics in a minute.
 
O.k., was this with or without the CF ribbon?

Meaning, did you ever get to the point of getting the drivers loaded on the second card?

no man the 3870 isn't bad but vista is f@#ked up! I had my drivers installed on my first card plugged in the second and Blam! it worked in xp! Tried my other hdd with vista on it and it just locks up, I'm currently in xp needless to say I still can't figure it out even with everything on defual still locks??
