Hey guys,

It's panchoman here, and I need your help!

My windows 7 bootloader isn't working anymore, after i adjusted my harddrive. Before it was set up like this:

{[Windows 7 Partition]--[Windows xp]--[Linux Part.]--[Linux Part.]}

I deleted the other 3 partitions,

{[Windows 7 Partition]-----------[Unallocated space]-------------}

And then i resized the windows 7 part to take up the whole hdd

{-------------------[Windows 7 Partition]-----------------------}

However, The windows 7 bootloader gives me an error now ever time i try to use it.

The error is like this:

---------------------------------- Windows Boot Manager---------------

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, Contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Status: 0XC0000225

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I booted into ubuntu 9.04 live cd linux and verified that acronis disk director suite did everything correctly. there was one nice whole partition which had all of my windows 7 files in it.

I also tried installing ubuntu on my hdd, to see if GRUB would help at all. no luck, it simply loads the same bootloader.

I also tried booting into the windows 7 cd, and did startup repair. it ran one pass and said problem corrected and i rebooted, but to no prevail. on the internet, people said you have to run it multiple times, since it fixes only 1 problem per pass. so on my 2nd pass (and every pass after that) it kept tell me that it was not able to fix the problem and that i should send the problem to microsoft. Here's the log of the cd's startup repair option:

I also went into the recovery counsle to see if i could manually fix it, as i read of on the internet.

Here's the log for the counsle. I first tried the recommended /fixmbr /fixboot, but i also found other options which i tried as well.

X:\Sources> bootrec /fixmbr
The operation completed successfully.
X:\Sources> bootrec /fixboot
The operation completed successfully.
X:\Sources> bootrec /ScanOs

Please wait, since this may take a while....

X:\Sources> bootrec /RebuildBcd

The Operation Completed successfully-MY ASS.

I jumped up from windows xp to windows 7 since i didn't want to deal with the piece of shit they called vista. I know that with xp, one can simply edit boot.ini to point the NTLDR bootloader to the correct partition and specify the type of Os that resides there. Now, i know that with vista and forward, it uses Vista boot manager in conjunction with the NTLDR bootloader, but there is no boot.ini image and the only way to edit it is either with msconfig or bcdedit (or easybcd for that matter).

How can i fix this problem? I doubt that either of those latter-mentioned files will work via WINE on the linux platform.

Also, my apologizes for posting stuff here in an out-of-order troubleshooting method. I've tried just about everything i can think of, and i really dont want to endure the agony of reinstalling and recovering ~240 gigs of SOFTWARE and important files (not HD porn movies). Please help me!

Well thanks for the help guys. i appreciate it. This thread can go die now.

deleting partitions will always kill a multi boot.

you should unplug all other HDD's before installing windows, and use your BIOS to choose the boot drive to prevent this.

win7 has a repair feature built into the install disk, maybe it could have fixed it?

windows 7 repair epic failed. I followed some advice i got from another forum and it was preety good. In the end though, i just zero'd my drive and clean installed.

Make an Acronis Recovery Disk ( and tuck it away for a rainy day), I find it can work very nicely when Windows recovery has issues.
