Hi

I have a printer installed on a server and accessed by computers in our library. From the server, I have clicked 'print both sides' from printing prefrences but it's not working, it only prints one side.

Do I need to do something else because it is on a server?

Thanks

No, being on a server has nothing to do with it. It is possible it is NOT a duplex printer.

How about sharing a little more information next time? Like the make and model of the printer, and what network card the printer is using, and what OS and drivers you are using on your PC. Perhaps even a screen shot of your printer settings.

Sure, it's a HP CLAS CP4005 using the PCL 6 driver. It is full duplex. Some screens:

Some printers may be duplex but don't support the command over network protocols.

On most printers (no duplexing), printing on "both sides" means print odd pages, user has to change the orientation of said pages, and then it prints even pages. They have a special sequence dedicated to the "both sides" process. If this is the case, after it is done printing odd pages, a dialog should pop up showing you how to put the paper back in and also tell you how to resume printing.

Thanks FordGT90Concept, should have mentioned it did it fine before we reinstalled it so it does do it... just not sure how!! And it's automatic too.

It's not printing odd pages either.

Strange. I've never heard of duplex problems over network. We have never had such an issue with Xerox or Kyoceras.

You say it is missing odd pages. Often, with duplex printing, due to paper flow and reversing, page (side) 2 prints first, then page (side) 1, then page 4 then page 3 on the second piece of paper, etc.

Watch the paper. Is it being "sucked" back into the printer for the second side? (If is uses this method)... but just not printing it?

If you start printing from page 2 onwards, will it print the odd pages and skip the even ones?

Are you 100% sure it is HP Color LaserJet CP4005dn printer (CB504A) and not the CB503A model that is without the duplex feature? (I ask this question in case you have more than one printer, and they do look identical). Is there some way that the driver was misinstalled on ONE of them: PC or server.

Are you in Windows on BOTH the PC and the server?

Try the Postscript driver.

Thanks lemonadesoda

It's not printing odd pages, ir prints in normal order. Also, it's def the 4005, we had it printing duplex before we reinstalled.

We need the PCL 6 driver because we seperate black and colour printing for staff and students. It did used to work with this driver...

thanks again for your response.

please help!!!

I would do a complete TCP/IP ports test ... there is a chance some ports to be firewalled ,
and the additional settings - info, to be blocked.

Just a theory ...

I do have one HP970Cxi with dual side print module ... never had similar issue .
