Would you choose another layout "psu hdd fan and 5.25" bay"

Horizontal is my favorite. Shame very few new cases actually use it because it completely avoids GPU sag as an issue. Even a 4090 looks small in my Thermaltake Core X9.

Good remark.

I had that case. What a monster and so fing flexible. I have a 7000D airflow now only because I no longer had a use for 2 GPUs for Gaming. It is in my sister's basement waiting for a build that will run VMs. I am thinking X399 right now.

Yep, only downside is that it isn't designed to show off your parts (which isn't a problem for me). Corsair Obsidian series is really good, used to have a lower end 500D before moving to the X9.

X399 in the X9 is a perfect fit IMO. Even better if you plan on adding enterprise U.2 SSDs as you can add a fan right next to them to cool them. Enterprise drives tend to run hot if you don't give that at least a little active cooling. Honestly I should have bought another X9 before they stopped making them because I'm in need of a video encoding rig and it would be great to just stack two X9s given they support that.

You can put anything that is sold in the PC space in an X9. It does make sense as a consumer based workstation.
