Hey everyone, I am currently looking to build a new gaming+streaming PC for around $1,500. I have been doing hours of research everyday and am asking for some help as I am new to building and not confident with my decisions so far. My main idea is I want to go for a high tier PC but not top tier. (basically one or two steps down from the latest and greatest hardware out there). I am very open and thankful for any suggestions/opinions you all have to offer.

I plan to be playing games plus live streaming to TwitchTV from this new PC (it is a hobby). I will be using two monitors. I want the freedom to play every game at max graphical settings. Types of games range from Tomb Raider (2013), Assassins Creed Unity, GTAV, etc. (ex: I know the TressFX hair setting on Tomb Raider really made my current PC lag and really want my new pc to be able to have this on with no problem)

This is what I have picked out so far. Missing a lot of parts because I am very unsure which way to go.

CPU: So far with my research I have been leaning towards AMD as they seem to be very cost efficient. I have been really interested in the AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core CPU. Most Intel CPUs I find comparable to this in price are only quad cores at 3.5GHz (some ranging from $100-$300 more which seems insane). Isn't an 8 core way more powerful than a quad core? This is something I have been trying to research and would love to know more about.

RAM: I want at least 16gb of RAM, not sure if I should be going for more? And I have had Corsair Vengeance in the past so I went with this.

SSD: As far as hard drives go, I really want to go with just one large SSD to keep things simple, and I currently have a 2TB external hard drive for storage for most of my games/streaming video files and whatever else.

Case: I've heard good things about the NZXT 440 that it's super silent and made very well.

GPU: Graphics card is one thing I am very unsure about what to grab and would love a lot of help here.

I am also not sure what brand or size would be best for a power supply. As far as cooling goes, not sure what I should be doing here, I don't plan to do any overclocking so water cooling would be unnecessary I think?

Anyway that's about all I can think of. I plan to order all the parts this December hoping to snag some winter deals. Again I am very open to all suggestions. Thanks for all the help you can provide.

My 2 cents, as someone who has done a bit of streaming.....it takes VERY little PC horsepower to stream. My i5 2500k, + HD 6950 PC have served Me very well to that end. I would go for a bit more HP in the GPU corner when it comes to My machine, but My recommendation would be to use...

#1 a dedicated Gaming drive, i.e. where you install, and run all of Your streaming titles from, I personally use one for Steam, that is NOT my "C" drive, and one for HDD heavy titles like DayZ/Arma 2. No matter what people will say, you do NOT NEED a SSD , 30FPS @ 1200p/720p is attainable with a $45 seagate barracuda 1TB.

#2 a GOOD quad core, is fine for streaming, personally I cannot comment on lesser CPU's , since I have never used one to stream.

#3 OBS is in MY OPINION is the best streaming software, atleast for Twitch.Learn it's settings, and test out which servers are best for You, They WILL change based on the amount of network traffic.

#4 Don't bother streaming @60FPS, or @ silly high bitrates....1200kb/s to 1800kb/s is FINE. Just because YOUR internet can do it, doesn't mean Your viewers CAN, and what You upload @ is what they have to Download @ to view Your stream.

#5 Don't stream for viewers, stream for Your own enjoyment.

The intel Haswell CPUs have much better per-core performance than the AMD 8 core ones. At this point in time Intel is the more balanced way to go.

Streaming at 60 FPS is glorious, highly recommended IF you can, although from what I've seen I think you would need to have at least a 6 core intel CPU. 1200kb/s@720p seems pretty good, most people don't have any trouble watching anything under 2Mb/s. I would not use external drives for running programs, even USB3.0. Also, I would not bother with using a single large SSD, I would use it only for boot and storing certain games that benefit from faster loading times, and maybe other programs.
