Was wondering if this is normal in any way.

Computer works fine, starts up and shuts down fine.

However, when I turn it on I can hear a distinct "click" at that right moment.

When I shut it down, the same. When everything turns off (case LED fans, etc) I can hear the distinct "click". On shutting down the click sounds louder than on start up. Also, on shutting down, if I have my speakers on (Z523), you can hear some sort of "noise discharge" through the speakers.

It happens roughly ~2 seconds after the computer completely shut off and you hear that click.

The clicks, and this speaker sound didn't happen with my previous PSU (that had to be exchanged because of fan clicking, google tx850m fan clicking)

I used to have a HX1050, and I noticed when I turned my PC off, it also used to make a weird speaker discharge noise when it was powered off. It never clicked though.

I have an AX1200, and I believe it is related to the relay(s) used. I've heard other people talking about the noise, too. Mine sounds a little bit like a spring when it powers off.

I don't leave my speakers on, so I've never noticed if there was any speaker noise.

Yea, you could call that click similar to a "spring". So is that coming just from the relays? What about the sound discharge?

Probably some kind of grounding issue

Relays do make click noises

A corsair employee said this on the forum regarding this:

Newer PSUs do this because you have a relay that essentially switches power from the +5VSB to the normal +5V between the off and on modes of the PSU.

So.. you have things like keyboard, mouse, etc... anything that's USB based, that uses +5VSB when the PC is "off". Once you turn on the PC, that is switched over to the +5V rail. Problem with the sound is that it also uses +5V, but not +5VSB, so it's getting a bit of juice that jumps from one rail to the other as you're shutting down and that causes some residual sounds in your speakers.

I phoned tech support just to get a more streamlined answer and they said it is indeed a relay that switches on and off for startup/shutdown. The click is not really normal tho and is there because it's not well lubricated but it's not detrimental and it will not get worse.

A click at startup/shutdown is miles better than the constant fan clicking and bearing failure that plagued both my TX850M that I had to RMA. And the HX850 is a nice upgrade from corsair.
