New laptop for college

I'm planning on buying a new laptop for college, and stuck between these two models MSI GX640-098US NoteBook Intel Core i5 430M(2.26GH... MSI GX740-079US NoteBook Intel Core i7 720QM(1.60G... is the quad core really worth it, and will the 5870 really be that much better than 5850. I want to go with the 5000 series ATI GPU as I want a little DX11 future proofing. What do you guys think is the better buy.

I'll be playing new games like fallout: new vegas, whatever upcoming Elder Scrolls, crysis, C&C 3 tiberium wars.

what was the price on the core i5 system? its listed as unavailable. I'd probably just get that system when they get more in stock and save you a little money. according to the notebookcheck benchmarks, the Core i5 system seems the better choice for gaming. (at least with the 5850 installed). the one with the 5870 will probably do better in the end as far as fps, but only by a few frames. I'd go with the core i5 and 5850, since you will also get better battery life. the 5870 uses 60watts while the 5850 uses 39. i'm sure the core i5 uses less than the i7 as well.

I would take the i5 if its $200+ cheaper, the i5 is a beast of a processor, and since you never used a mobile i7 processor, you will still think the i5 is very fast. (What you don't know can't hurt you principle)

Go with the GX640. If you want you can wait for the one with the HD 5830 for a cheaper and smaller yet still capable laptop.
