Hey guys, i bought this memory for my upcoming desktop i plan to buy late next month, but i was hoping it would work on my dell 780. it fits, but when i turn on my computer, i get a beeping noise
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C53GEFU/?tag=tec06d-20

I was hoping the speed would drop down from 1600mhz, but nothing boots up. any ideas? Its not a serious big deal, because i plan to buy a new desktop in about 3 weeks, just was curious could i make it run on my dell 780. my motherboard
http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/optix/en/optiplex_780_spec_sheet_en.pdf

I'm using at 2 ddr3 memory sticks = 4gb. Windows 7 64bit, firepro v4800, and intel xeon 3360 12mb 2.83 ghz.

Never heard of A-Tech. DOA ram sticks? I would return those and just get some used GSKill or Corsair from either forum or eBay.

Doesn't that require DDR3L ram?

Dell optiplex 780 desktop does afaik

when in doubt regarding RAM, you can always use this tool, it seems to work (atleast to manufacturers spec) http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/memory-info

yea, thats a Q45.
Another issue (i believe) is I noticed it showed an 8 GB singlestick max capacity with an asterisk saying "type dependent" so it may very well be that it only excepts DDR2 up to 8 GB.

Hopefully one of my ideas is able to lead you to a solution

Works just fine, tried it in my friends computer. It just doesn't seem to be compatible due to speed of my mb

Looking around, i found this info
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19532368

guess it doesn't work. Guess i will just save it for my next rig and make sure the ram will work related to the speed that works with it from the MB.

Quick question. Do they sell AM2+ motherboards that supports DDR3 memory up to 1600mhz? If one exist.

No. AM2(+) cpus have only DDR2 memory controller, so such motherboards can only have DDR2 slots.

But, you may find AM3 DDR2 motherboards, or combo DDR2+DDR3 motherboards. And again, remember what CPU you have:
am2(+) - ddr2 only
am3 - supports both (not at the same time, of course)
am3+ - ddr3 only

right, but the new sticks are 8gb correct? it might be that it doesnt support that size in that type.

hmm what about this
Hybrid motherboards

An A790GXH motherboard that can support AM2, AM2+ and AM3 socket CPUs
Some motherboard manufacturers (e.g. ASRock, Jetway, and MSI) have released hybrid motherboards that are equipped with an AM2+ socket and both DDR2 and DDR3 memory slots. These boards permit the use of AM2/AM2+ processors with DDR2 RAM, or AM3 processors with either DDR2 or DDR3 RAM.

The speed of the stick is 1600mhz, i think it doesn't work because the motherboard doesn't support that speed for memory.

thats possible, but ive seen 1600mhz as "recommended" for upgrades to that system.....to be honest, the optiplex' PC's are a nightmare when upgrading due to their proprietary nature, these types of issues always seem to pop up. i own a optiplex 7010 , and its a pita too.

What's this: Memory Options Up to four DIMM slots; Non-ECC dual-channel 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM*, up to 8GB*

So, is that 2GB per slot over 4 slots max?

Has there been a bios update (A15) that increases the size per slot?
