New Microsoft Weather App Windows 11 is way off in weather forecasting

This makes zero sense.

How would he know why his geolocation data isn't resulting in accurate weather data?
Finally! Now you are starting to understand the problem! He (you, me, etc.) wouldn't know if it is reporting accurate data, or if it is reporting inaccurate data! If it was in the middle of the summer and it said it was freezing out, then you would know it was wrong. But if 90°F at your house and the program says 85°F, it could be accurate where that sensor is, or it might be off a little. That is just another reason why big metro areas use many sensor stations.

Whether it's his computer or his smartphone, he doesn't really have control of how the location telemetry is processed.
Exactly!

I ride a bicycle as often as I can. Getting ready to go out now. I am going to look at 5 different "local" weather stations before I go to see what to expect over the next 3 hours. I assure you, each will be different. So I have no choice but to toss out the extremes and average the 3 in the middle and hope for the best.

Weird, the Windows 11 weather widget is correct with temperature and location...

I reported MS few times about the weather app.

That is odd. I can only assume they get their data from different sources.

I reported MS few times about the weather app.
That's good and likely all you can do for now. If we can assume you are not the only one experiencing this problem, then hopefully others are reporting it too - squeaky wheel.

Keep us posted if something changes.

I think I've found a bug here, the coordinates have no decimals. Both your examples, home and Amsterdam, points to nearest integers.. see below.
Yeah I didn't pick the exact point in the map but I think you'll get it anyway, just look at the decimals in in the pics or try it out for yourselves. :D

So if you for instance enter Groningen in the weather app you should end up here:

I am not sure I understand your point.

Where did you get the coordinates? I note the published coordinates for my town are different, by about 10 miles, from the coordinates of the location for the "official" NWS weather station for my town.

Where did you get the coordinates?
I clicked in google maps where the OP's pics had the position marked, and then I saw that both were close to xx.0, yy.0
This time I entered the closest integers of the point I clicked in the last post:

Same for Amsterdam:

Yeah tried that, with entering different towns, without 100% success, everytime it jumped off.

Using a local website now at the moment for weatherforecasting.

So I'm the only one who sees the integer pattern? Edit: In the OP's pics, that is.

It's quite a bit more in the OP's example:

I am not seeing it. When I enter my location in Google Maps, it shows me at 41.1373063,-95.9512055. If I enter those coordinates in Windows Weather, it shows the me in the same the location.

So if there is a bug, not sure where it would be.

I see, but I was referring to the OP's pics alone.

Still, my point is the same. If this bug (if that is what it is) is in the Windows Weather app, it seems everyone would be seeing the problem for their own locations. If it is correct where we are, then it seems the problem is central to the OP's location and therefore, may be something amiss there.

We need more input from more people to see if unique to the OP, or widespread. Only then (maybe) can we draw any conclusions.

@Bill_Bright: What happens if you enter Amsterdam in the app? Does it show you the city or the sea?

I mean, a bug that only shows up in specific situations isn't new to any of us. I don't have W11 to try this myself.

As far as I can tell, the app in W10 is the exact same as in W11.

When I enter Amsterdam on either computers, it shows Amsterdam.

Have been using MSN weather webpage for a while, since that's basically the same as the windows 11 weather app and it always shows the correct location.
Just now I've tried the weather app again and it's showing the correct location with the correct weather now!

Hope it stays like this!
