New midrange build (UK)

could use the included box cooler, would be perfectly fine if you don't plan on upgrading for a few years ( also perfectly fine for 12600 i belive but not really sure about that part)
and you could cheap out on the ssd, if you don't move gigantic file everyday (25+ gb)then you can pick a gen 3 pcie ssd and you won't see any difference between it and the gen4/5 ones
by gen 3 i mean speed that are achievable on gen 3 even if they marketed as gen4 like the nv2 (from kingstone)
and with that money y'could get a 12600(k?) or get better psu cuz 650w for a 4070 and 12400f is lil bit on the short side (at least for me)

Oh yeah no manual overclocking so for ~100w CPU and ~200w GPU even a decent 500w would do fine.

Re the cooler, have Intel stock coolers caught up (or overtaken) AMD Wraith coolers? Pretty sure I heard they had improved but don't think I've seen benchmarks.

Hello! Any thoughts on this?

Interested to hear if there are any obvious areas for improvement.
While trying to stick close to your budget without making unacceptable compromises:

Raptor Lake cores (much better than Alder Lake, which is a 2021 architecture).
Decent PSU with ATX 3.1 compatibility.
Better RAM and double the capacity (16 GB is not enough)

How I would build it.
DDR4 platform is not worth the £30 saving. ASUS Dual is the best cheap AIB. Intel likes fast memory, might as well spend £20 extra on it (over 6000/36).

I'd also advise avoiding wired mice. Wireless tech is as fast or literally faster than wired mice these days, and the cable is a hassle. Razer is a good option though, their performance is excellent. TPU does mice reviews though if you want to take a look.

Edited to include a cooler that performs 2 celcius better for £1.30 more, noise normalised.

they had been improvements, also still not as good as the amd ones

i calculate like this: 2x gpu + cpu
so : 200*2+120=320w and completely join you on that but by better psu i mean with better protections so y'don't end up with gigabyte's gp-p750gm like level of protection

Ah yeah I remember that one impressing in the reviews (here and GN I think) and forgot it existed.

Thanks for the advice guys and agree that it looks well worth paying a bit more for a surprising amount of improvements!

I'd also just spend the extra £50 and get a 2 TB drive. 1 TB sucks if you only have one drive total, also double the write endurance and twice the SLC cache.
