New plastic heatsinks(in the future)

that would make video cards much lighter, also is awesome this tech
 
they should make it a flexible plastic type thing then you can just bend it around the inside of your case and make designs and stuff. and have a little hole going threw the whole pipe and just fill it with some mx-3

Why would you fill it with mx-3 that would completely defeat the unique characteristic of this material :laugh:

No as the heat will still dissipate from the heat-sink, just in one direction , just means you need to set up the fan to blow along the direction of heat travel and you get a fine and dandy heatsink :toast:

Still I'll wait to see how this pans out before making any sort of judgement XD

Maybe they could put copper heat pipes in it too to get it travel to metal fins so they could be spread the heat for a fan to cool it.

I guess it depends how fast the heat is removed though the plastic i guess and how well the plastic cools.
 
I don't think they'd even need the copper and metal. Just have the plastic itself spread out with a larger surface area and make it porous so there's even more surface area and get some fans on a push pull config to drain the heat out.

Or what'd be real sweet is if they set it up kind of with a lot of infolds kind of like those tower defence games where the longer path they have to take the more time your towers have to destroy the punks before they steal your cookies!
 
my point is: small amount of heat return, vs none.

If these are truly one-way, then NONE would come back - which has some interesting things to think about

Sounds cool, we will probably see a lot of these in like said before industrial situations, using them as heatsinks for transformers and such in your TV vs those super ugly cheap goofy looking metal heatsinks.

This is how technology works, I hope it works out pretty well, I'm fed up with air cooling noise and weight.
 
The key to the transformation was getting all the polymer molecules to line up the same way, rather than forming a chaotic tangled mass, as they normally do. The team did that by slowly drawing a polyethylene fiber out of a solution, using the finely controllable cantilever of an atomic force microscope, which they also used to measure the properties of the resulting fiber.
Damn, why didnt I think of that!
