New System build Suggestions

Hey guys,

It's you're friensly neighborhood durvelle27

I'm in the market for a new build since i sold my last and really miss the PC world. I'm lookiny for a rig that can handle 4K gaming, Video editing/rendering, music production, VM and other things. Mind you my last rig was a Xeon 6C/12T w/16GB of RAM so no peepsqueaks

So far this is what i have pieced together

Hi there,

I see that you want to put the components to work at 100% so I would say you need a better motherboard than that, watercooling more RAM memory (32 GB at least at least) one SSD and a 1080Ti or a Titan Xp

Any board suggestions. I prefer ASUS

I intend on using my custom loop, why i didn't have a cooler on the list

32GB would be beneficial but the price jump is tremendous

I'm not a fan of SSDs

Use SSD as OS drive like 850EVO and but other stuff on hdd.

Get a bit higher memory kit to run it at least @2666 or higher because with ryzen higher clocks do make a differences.

For GPU 1080ti

And as always get the latest bios and your golden

Do you already have a Case or you have something new in mind.

Yes have a Fractal Case, Custom Loop, actaully have a PSU as well but it's only 650W

I've used many and the slight difference is load times is not enough for me to want to buy one. FPS over load any day

In that case a 1700 might not be the best proc, it sounds like you're building a gaming rig

Not sensible because my work benefits from more cores more so than ssds

OC or no OC I'm quite sure that the Flare X series will out perform and last longer.

It's more or less OK.

However, I would wait for two months for Ryzen ThreadRipper, pick a 10 or 12 core model if their price will not be over 700$ and possibly wait for an RX 590, assuming that they'll be out at the same time (I doubt that). Of course, that goes if your primary intent isn't gaming and you do video editing, rendering etc. as a primary or a side job.

If your primary intent is gaming, Ryzen 5 1600 or 1600X paired with a powerful GPU like GTX 1080 Ti and 16GB RAM would rock at 4K resolution and still have more than enough power for amateur (non-professional) video editing, rendering etc. The point is that you would have practically zero benefits with more powerful CPU than Ryzen 5 1600X at 4K gaming.

That board is overly priced and doesn't offer enough for the price justification

I decided on the ASUS Prime X370-Pro

I'm looking into 32GB. Hopefully can catch a sale

I honestly want Vega more so than the 1080Ti. But no release date for Vega

I want threadripper so bad but i think it's a different socket and price may be out of range

1600X is nice but may fall not satisfy my needs
