Nintendo Seemingly Blocks Video Streaming Apps On Switch 2

Original Topic. Find it. only warning.

Very mature.

News flash everyone, the Switch2 is a GAMING system! Want to watch video's? Turn on a PC, TV, tablet or phone. A lot of people never used the video streaming apps of the Wii/WiiU/Switch1.

TADA!
That's like saying your iPhone is only to make phone calls. Between gaming sessions, maybe take a break and watch some Crunchy or YT on the system's larger screen and better speakers.

You can do that on a Switch!? I might have to pick one up... not second-hand, of course...

I bought a PS4 for the Blu-Rays ;)

Be mature when playing with your toys!
Playing Blu-Rays were a huge selling point for the PS3 and PS4. I'm pretty sad to see Blu-Rays die off...

We've done that. Got anything new and relevant to say?

Proof that you've missed the context..

So let's repeat: Nintendo has created a GAMING system with the Switch2. That's it's purpose. It's their choice whether to accept media streaming apps on the system they built. It's not up to us and we have no say. If you don't like that, move along and buy something else.

DVD's and Blurays are still selling well. They're just not as popular as they once were.

Ever since smart tvs, firesticks, rokus, and even Apple TV, went mainstream I'm not really seeing the benefit of having streaming services on video game consoles. No one really holds off purchasing a home console due to not having Netflix, and why would they? They already have Netflix on their smart phone, smart tv and streaming stick/device.

No one buys a console primarily because of streaming video services.

The last time video physical media was valuable on a home console was the ps3/xbox 360. PS3 was a really cheap blu ray player and xbox 360 was a cheap HD DVD player when you also spent the $200 on the hd dvd drive accessory. Only the PS2 DVD drive was a bigger deal, PSOne being a CD player was also kind of a big deal in the mid 1990s as it was a cheap CD player at the time.

I find absolutely zero reasons to purchase a Switch 2 over the first one. If anyone can offer some good incentive on why is 2 better than 1, and worth the extra cash, I would love hear him out.

Some people like things that are faster and run smoother and higher resolution. That is why people buy 5080's and not just 5060s.

Everyone has a personal limit to calculating "worth", seems yours is lower than many others where Nintendo is concerned. (don't take this as an attack, it isn't) I have no doubt that many people will buy the switch 2 as they find value in it.

Exactly. Game systems don't need streaming apps.

The upgraded specs for one. Could keep going down that list but you're not likely to be impressed.

But why NOT have them? They are software and literally zero reason to not allow them as far as Nintendo is concerned. It is a selling point that Nintendo could add to the marketing hype. Many people could consolidate and get rid of streaming sticks like roku or what have you if the Switch 2 allowed it. It is light years better than the hardware in TV's also.

Because it was stated previously does NOT make it any less relevant.

You're defending Nintendo for removing features, you sir the type of consumer corporations love. More control and less work... Gaming systems are primarily used for gaming; however, they run apps that use next to zero processing power...all while keeping the consumer happy. Sir, do you not like seeing the consumer happy?

The trend is clear...Blu-Rays and DVDs are fading out. What used to be a prominent section in stores has shrunk to a tiny shelf, if it's even there at all. Physical media just isn't the primary way people consume movies anymore. Streaming services have taken over, offering instant access, and convenience.

Don't try to gaslight me with Nintendo is a GAMING machine... ((I own damn near every major gaming console since Atari 2600 (I do need to get the Atari Jaguar tho)). The fact Blu-Rays are doing just fine is a comical at best... The industry is going toward you own nothing, you control nothing. ...my bad, I'm going off topic here.

Worst argument I've seen so far...

No one buys a console primarily because of streaming video services.

Now this is probably the most obvious statement I've seen yet. People that have children love the Switch as its a very capable gaming AND entertainment device. Many parents do not buy their young children cell phones just to watch streaming apps. One devices to rule them all...pretty simple concept when you actually think about it.

I already answered. You haven't been paying attention...

I just re-read all of your posts in this topic. Your only answer has been "it's a game system" but then you give a pass to playstation allowing video for some reason. So why is it OK for a playstation but not a switch?
It comes down to this. One, Lex isn't in charge of anything regarding your question. Like most everything, it's just his opinion. Two, it's your choice to decide to buy a switch or not, knowing its limitations. If you don't like it, noone here can give you any legitimate answer other than those given by Nintendo. If you don't like those answers, contact Nintendo. Now both of you, let go of the argument. It's not one that can or will be "won". One doesn't like it, the other doesn't care. Move on.
