I need help, as this is not my area.
Been using my MSI Mag B760 realtek ethernet for a while without any problems.
Just last week I lost connection. Router can see everything is fine. (yes I tried different cable)
Check all in nic properties showed no connection. Disabled ethernet in bios and install TP-Link PCIe Ethernet and all worked.
Few days later, exact same thing has happened.
Spent days trying to figure out what went wrong. Still both nic can not connect to anything. Removed drivers, uninstall and even reset network.

Started to use wifi from B760 worked, till I bought another TP-link card. which Im using now. Both works.

In my head this all started after Opera update to Opera One. I think problems was happening, used my in browser VPN I use (not opera built in) that could not connect. (using onboard nic)
This happened again when I switched to TP-link card (used in browser VPN)
I use my inbrowser VPN in Firefox and Edge and havent seen an issue (also used the windows app.

Opera is uninstalled now, and waiting too see what happens.
I would like to use onboard again or other card (but wont work, hope it is not fried)
Please help me fix both cards.
Thank you

I have ran into this before when connections using the same VPN software were creating TAPs and re-using old network info that the VPN itself programmed before the agent could update.

You dont really need to understand that.

What you can try and do is open the "Network Connections" view.

and delete all of them (since I dont know which may be the ghost adapter). Try to reinstall your nic cards then (or scan for new hardware in device manager).

Further you can (and should) go into device manager after removing the connections. and delete any adapters still present (ghosted out) before attempting to reinstall or scan for new hardware.

You will need to reconfigure your VPN most likely after.

Oh yes, I removed all ghosted previous nics. Including all browser VPN and windows VPN. All drivers.
Both Onboard and TPlink nic (V3) says no internet connection. (did not have both connect at same time) router and all info can be seen.
The new TPLink V4 nic I just bought works (including when I tried onboard WiFi)

Something happened to both would not connect to internet.

We must be misunderstanding each other because this doesnt make any kind of sense.

did all that you mentioned. When I re-enabled onboard nic, could not even get a connection. Yet router can see the connection.
As I said, all this happened after opera was updated to opera one and I used my VPN addon to browser.
currently all is working as before with new nic i bought. Yet still cant use old nic or onboard.

This problem is not simple. Next test is unplug all my drives, grab a spare ssd and do a fresh install too test onboard nic and pcie nic.
If the problem is still there or not, then something happened after opera update.

Thank you
hope any others have any idea what happened.

I realise this sounds too simple but I have had issues recently where my ethernet failed for no apparent reason. I determined it was likely a bios issue in the end but try this for a fix: 1. Shutdown. 2. Disconnect the power for 10 seconds by switching off the power supply. 3. Reconnect power and startup.

ill give it a try next time.

This problem is not simple

it seems it. but instructions seem to be hard. Have you tried DELETING not disabling the NICs?

If your router "sees" the connection. then you should look into what the VPN ios physically setting for subnet and gateway on the NIC.'

You provide no diagnostic info like IP config or any NIC current configuration.

Then you misuse networking terms and simply reply with "tried it".

How much help were you planning to get for your "difficult problem"?

what does that mean? cable icon works or router is assigning ip and they are pinging?

You'll need better descriptions of the problem or more screenshots - does windows SEE the connection? Does it get an IPv4 or IPv6 address?

Are your IPv4 and IPv6 settings on auto? Those newer cards with a fresh driver definitely will be, so that's a place to look - a static IP or DNS set in the past for some reason could explain this, if your network changed.

worked more on issue. ipconfig and netsh. neither worked.
Just done, clean install. issue gone and using onboard nic.
Now other issue, Memory Management error. Which is not networking.

Thanks for the help.

it was prolly easily fixable
most likely, but being away for weekend. needed system up by today. thanks for all help.
