hello friends today i moved my comp to my bro's place with gpu and cpu's heatsink romved and now im getting only a black screen. im sure everything is fine seated and moving precess was secure aswell. so what do you think? i dont really know what to do. allready reseated rams and cpu yet still no display...

The rig doesn't happen to give a big ass (heavy) cooler, does it?
Note he said he removed them before moving.

Did you thoroughly clean the mating surfaces between the processors and heatsinks and apply proper and fresh layers of TIM (thermal interface material)?

Did you verify all power connections? These could have easily be knocked loose during the move or while replacing the heatsinks.

Did you take the essential ESD precautions to ensure no static discharges from your body BEFORE reaching in to remove and replace the heatsinks?

Then there is a chance of damaged parts while uninstalling heatsink and gpu.

Which goes to basic problem solving: Get the whole thing out and test each part.

As stated, we need to go to the basics first, if your motherboard supports onboard video, go for that first.
disconnected the harddrives, diskdrives etc and remove all the expansion cards like soundcards and videocards.

Basically it should just be motherboard, cpu, 1 ram stick and ofcourse the powersupply hooked up properly.
Does that start up properly and can you get something on your display that way?

If not, reset the bios by the instruction of your motherboard and try again.

I would check cables first, before taking everything part. Make sure you have the monitor connected to the correct video port too - and that the cable is securely connected on the monitor side as well.

well tried cleaning dust and reseting bios manually. im very suspicious about gpu but i dont see any reason why it could be damaged cuz it moved inside its own full box. it cant be cpu even though i didnt remove it during move. case was secured by pillows. now i have to buy a analog cable to test with onboard input. all power cables are fine also all fans are spinning. wish i had a sound alert that beeps when something is wrong

This has been an irritant for me for years. In the good old days, cases came with "system speakers" just for this. Then "some" (but not all :() motherboards started including a little "piezoelectric" button speaker on their motherboards, so case makers stopped including them. But since not all motherboards include them, it left many of us in the dark (or rather total silence) even though "ALL" ATX compliant motherboards still support system speakers in their front panel I/O header areas.

So in our builds, if the motherboard does not have an integrated system speaker for beeps, I add one of these (and yes, that is 20 speakers for $6.95).

wish i had one rightnow :D by thw way i experienced a reset after a min with no display. at first system boots up and even hdd ligbt is blinking and after a min system resets itself and this time no hdd lght blink. i dont freaking get it. all i know is i should remove cpu heatsink and gpu while moving. all case was cowered in a pillow box so there is no possibilty for a demeged part.

Sounds like you sorry GPU not quite sat right or missing power leads to me.

Check the easiest stuff first. Is the Video cable on the correct output?

Biggest issues with gpus is they are not inserted fully or squarely in the motherboard.

Most Times I pull motherboard out of case and put it on a non conductive surface and a elevated box with the psu, monitor, mouse and keyboard and ensure it posts. Ive been doing this since 2001.

if this thing has been sitting foir a while (more than a year), pull out the video card check the socket for damage and dust. Clean the card contact pins with lint free tissues something like those soft tissues you would clean glasses with. if you cant get electronic contact cleaner use rubbing alcohol on the contacts.

at the same time, repeat the same for the memory sticks, just for sake of doing it.

Carefully vac out any sockets.

Ive seen this issues many times in the past and respotting the RAM usually fixes it, give that a go and report back.

Read his first post, he already did that.

being as the cpu cooler was taken off and then put back.. i would go for that.. but i would guess the op already has..

but when something is taken apart and then put back together.. sometimes that something dosnt f-cking work.. :)

disturbing things can have weird effects.. "sometimes"..

trog

Have you checked that the monitor still works?

what im about to say will annoy you as it annoys me right now. i checked gpu with another comp and it works just fine and when get home i felt the desperation of rma of mb or cpu so last time i wanted to check ram slots again i knew it wont be different but i've got nothing to lose so tried with only dimm2 slot and thats when devil poked me in my back cuz it worked. i have no idea why bit it worked with dimm2 so i thought okay lets try dimm1 so i can be sure. dispite the anti logic cuz i damn tried this method 3 times allready. well, turns out dimm1 slot is broken. there is no logical reason for dimm1 slot to die cuz if something would hit the rams during move process it has to hit dimm2 slot cuz dimm1 slot is not open to a direct contact with any free cable cuz rams were sticked so if a free cable rushed to rams, dimm2 slot should guard the dimm1 and get unfunctional by possible demege. anyway i have to carry on with one 8gb ram untill rma or a new mb. it shouldn't be a problem except battlefield 1 cuz i heard it performs 20~ fps better with 8+ ram.

Did you remove the cpu at any point? If so, you may have bent a pin on the cpu socket. Same thing happened to me. Bent pin on CPU socket, i had to go from 4x4 GB DIMM to 2x8GB DIMM because one of the slots doesn't work on my mobo now.

cpu was inside the mb while moving. should still check the pins?

plus why didnt you repair bent pins instead of changing rams?

When you put the CPU cooler back on after moving the computer, you may have damaged a trace to the DIMM slot.
