i just got the ati silencer for my ati x850xtpe (flashed)
on x850pro + stock cooling: idle was about 50 - 55C and load with wc3 went to a whoopin 80C
on x850 xtpe + ati silencer: idle 48 - 50C and load with wc3 is about 61C

is the ati silencer suppose to give me next to nothing decrease in temperature on idle?
i've seen people say they got 35C on idle and 45C on load... anyone know whats going on with my x850?

Thanks

well you may have a very high ambient air temp. idle temps dont really matter the load temps do

You'll have to use ATI tool to set your fan speed to be constant 100%.......default Is only 5%...that would explain the High Idle.....I Idle at 34-36c and max load takes me to about 60-61c at 580/620.

Good Luck. :)

If you have any hot components near by with a lack of case airflow that will do it as well.

hmm i dunno, im using a dell so yea their cases suck and are stuffy.

anyways how would i check if i have a fan controllable flash version of x850 xt pe?

and if i don't can someone get me a bootable cd (iso) file of a fan controllable xt pe with 16 pipes active, my floopy drive isn't working.

any other suggestion as to why my idle is so high

Well your temps with the stock fan are using the X850 pro BIOS (12 pipelines) and the temps with the silencer are using the X850 XT BIOS (16 pipelines) so that would normally cause an increase in temperature except you also went to a better cooler so the effects cancelled.

My X850XT-PE at 540/590 idled at 40 C in my Antec P180 so you probably just have a hot case.
