Can you provide a screenshot or any further details?

What was she doing when it happened?

Have you tried anything to fix the issue?

For example...reboot the system, malware scan, scan disk/chkdsk, Google for a poasible quick fix, etc.

I wonder if its in regards to.a failing drive or card reader...

Hey Kursah,
I have rebooted, malware scan, virus scan, googled fixes to no joy. I thought the drive also. I am going to try a reinstall upgrade, so I don't lose programs. She is backing up her files now. I have a new drive, if needed. Just was curious if anyone else had seen it. I will try to send a screen shot after she is done. It maybe tomorrow. She was browsing and went to look for a file.

Hey have you checked event viewer for errors that might be related?

From what I gathered on Google, I think it has to do with either a corrupt user account or the drive itself. To rule out the drive, can you post a screenshot of CrystalDiskInfo (portable, standard edition)?

If the Computer is working allowing you to run scans etc, then Explorer.exe must be functional.
I would run a SFCscannnow command at command prompt to see if any files are corrupted.

Agreed and if SFC found corruptions, the reinstall upgrade would fix that. There are DISM commands for 8 and 10 but in my experience isn't as useful in 7 for repairs more than imaging.

Odds are you're on the right track if there is such a corruption.

Though one could test if the issue is only affecting that profile by creating a new one to login to and test. If that resolves it...you could simply migrate your data over. If you want something easy to help, Profile Wizard works well. I prefer the manual copy and paste tho....some settings I don't mind changing again. Though I'd make sure SFC came back clean regardless...

Try this... it has worked for a lot of people with the error you are getting:

What You Should Do :

To resolve this issue, run the command below to reregister all DLL files for explorer:

1. Click Start. In the Search box, type CMD. At the top of the window, right-click the cmd icon and choose Run as Administrator.

2. At the prompt, type in FOR /R C:\ %G IN (*.dll) DO "%systemroot%\system32\regsvr32.exe" /s "%G" and press <Enter>.

This will take several minutes to complete. There will be several C+ Runtime errors that will appear, as well as the system slowing down. Once complete, restart the system and test.

When i get home I will try the above and report back. Thank you all so much for your help.

Try this instead at the command prompt with Admin privileges.
You can copy the code then paste in Command Prompt.

Don’t use CTRL + P shortcut keys. It won’t work.

Instead, right-click anywhere in Command Prompt then select ‘Paste’.

Wait for the confirmation then reboot your computer.
Code:
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\actxprxy.dll

you for got the FOR

FOR /R C:\ %G IN (*.dll) DO "%systemroot%\system32\regsvr32.exe" /s "%G"

Click OK to clear any errors and just ignore them. There might be a lot of them.

But, it should work and re-register all the appropriate dlls.

It might run for a while. Just re-boot and test.

Proof it does work as 95Viper has posted. That's the end result after it's ran through.

BiffZinker wins the prize. The second fix worked. Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Glad to hear the issue is resolved :), it was a guess if it would work since I've never encountered that error message before.
