Hi all - registered to ask this question to a problem:

I finally bit the bullet and upgraded an aging GTX770 to a GTX 1070ti, plugged in no issues, no messages of any kind and I didn't change anything else in my rig. Howevere I'm now getting an error message for my screensaver:

"Screensaver can't run because it requires a newer video card or one that's compatible with D3D"

Now I have quite a few older games in my collection and this has me concerned so I check the drivers and it won't update from Nvidia direct as it's not liking my version of windows - win7 64bit.

I found this link on your site after googling the issue: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-geforce-graphics-drivers/

and even though it states it's for win 7 64 bit - it's still not happy "Cannot find compatible hardware" ?????? like WTF ??

I'm absolutely not going to upgrade to win 8 or 10 and I hate both of them having used them elsewhere - at least until I have absolutely no choice.

In the meantime - can anyone show me a solution to getting my new card to display D3D?

Specs:
Win 7
Processor i7-4790K CPU
Ram 16gb

Get Display Driver Uninstaller, Download Drivers for the 1070Ti, download newer motherboard chipset drivers.

Re-install the old video card.

Disconnect your ethernet cable or disable your wifi adapter.

Open Display driver uninstaller, follow all prompts, run it once in safe mode then twice in Windows, make sure last run is set so it shuts system down.

Change cards. Boot up, install latest motherboard chipset driver.

Restart system

Install Graphics driver.

Restart.

Hook up ethernet cord or re-enable wifi adapter.

wow - ok..... many thanks for the reply - I think I'll do that tomorrow as that sounds like it'll take a while.

It's also possible your card is an scam card / fake. You may want to run GPU-Z on it soonish to check.

I don't think they ever targeted 1070 ti's ,the scam was perpetuated too early and was already up and rolling by the time it was a widely released product

Uninstalling drivers and reinstalling them is all the matter of 10 minutes

OK - well I did as eidairaman suggested - the whole thing and seems to have done the trick - all seems to be fine the driver linked had no issues and screensaver also works.

Many thanks for the advice - I've built many machines in the last 18 years, and upgraded GPU's for those machines as time went on, but this was the first time I've ever had such an odd problem.

Appreciate the replies and the help.

@ king of swag187 - normally uninstall / reinstall is fine - but for some reason my system was having none of it - a first for me - hence my plea for help :)

Anytime you go from 1 generation of gpus to another, always do the said above procedure.

By the way 20 experience here for me, like second nature. Ddu is a recent tool though
