NVIDIA App

Well why would it list current game options next to "Recommended" values then? You can also move the slider at the top to adjust the performance target.
well whatever, i think that the Nvidia Profile Inspector is much more powerful, much faster, more efficient and just way better to use that this bloated complicated Nvidia-APP.
If you like the Nvidia-APP, good! Then use it, this is perfectly fine! Its just not for me.

Do you mean "opened the app before with internet access"? I didn't. I always block all the outgoing connections in such programs first.
It’s not really about login, just calling home. I think I read somewhere they want to connect to NV server to get game templates or some such.
You read it in this very article: game profiles are separated from the app itself, the app needs to download them. Whether having default, built-in, probably stale profiles is preferable to no profile, but download the latest when needed... There's probably no right answer to that.

No need to sign in , but need to check a few boxes .

That can be blocked in firewall.
The whole point of my query was that if you block it in firewall (as I do with most apps during install) the game tweaking option will stop working.

The article also said that it "should" be possible to adjust individual games without the need to download "profiles". Which I still believe there is no need for to start with, apart from Nvidia's need for user data scraping. I'm pretty sure I did block Adrenalin as well when I had the 9070XT and I could do whatever I wanted bar participation in some promo programs, so clearly it can be done.

I did check the programs Dr.Do recommended and they indeed seem very useful, although I'm so strained for time I'd prefer to use the N-App instead of doing the learning and under the hood tweaking. That fact made me open up my firewall briefly and yes, the Nvidia did root around my hdds and produced a list of games that I can now tweak. This seems to persist after I blocked it again in firewall. I will see how it goes. I

The DLSS Swapper seems simple enough, I just wonder if I go into the game profile there and choose the highest available DLSS version, would that be the equivalent of the "Overrides" in Nvidia App? If I could just follow this simple rule and avoid needing to spend time digging up info on individual updates then I think I could just use this program instead of App (plus the good ol Nvidia Control Panel).

i tested the new nvidia app once, and i found out that it made changes to the games itself! it literally changed the settings in the game without warning! not only that, but the changes it made where undocumented, certainly not "optimized" and worse than that what i already had configured. for example, in TLoU part 1, it was activating DLAA, but the old outdated version that came with the game and that produces all lot of ghosting (unusable).
i immediately uninstalled this piece of crap.
I still use the old nvidia control panel with nvidia inspector, that allows me to use the latest version of DLSS and DLAA in any Game. without having an "app" surveilling me all the time...
Yeah I was concerned about this kind of stuff happening, I think a tool shouldnt be doing this kind of stuff.

4th option in settings:

You also don't need to send data to allow for optimization of settings:

And it's not a single "Optimize" and it's worse than whatever you chose, there's a slider there for a reason:
