I have noticed a lot of reviews for example 4870 vs 260, where they show that the 2 cards are head to head, when in fact the 4870 a little overclocked can take the 280.
In another review where they compared the 4870x2 with the 280, they showed them at par...How can that be if a regular 4870 can allmost take the 280.

Why are some reviews just so different?

wrong section, shouldve posted it in nvidia.

The 4870 is on par with the 260 not the 280. The 4870 overtakes the 260 in very high resolutions with AA turned on. I've yet to see any reviews where the 280 beats the 4870x2 (except in Crysis).

"fake reviews paid by NVIDIA" ? And what validates your accusation?

I have always thought so too, something shady is going on . Take a look at these numbers from Tweaktown's review of 9800GT on launchday.

HD4850 which beats 9800GTX, is getting beat by 9800GT ??

Ahh OK I see what you mean now!! Thought you where linking to single 4870 results.

hang on, what are you trying to say, the 4870 is aprox equal to a gtx 280 ? if so can you show me a review (of any kind) that shows these two head to head

this is what should rival what

GTX 260 > 4870
GTX 280 > 4870X2

i have a gtx 280 and it beats rigs with a 4870 easy

and yea a OCed 4870 could prob take on a gtx 280 but these reviews are done at stock speeds when compairing two cards, also dont forget the cpu speed can play a major factor in what card can beat what as some cards are more cpu limited then others (for example mt gtx 280 with stock cpu and a big oc on the gfx i see almost no gains in gfx benchmarks but when i OC the cpu i see gains, meaning the gfx card is cpu limited)

fastmix can you please update your system specs please, it helps to know what sort of system you have

or am i way left of field here ?

Is Nvidia paying these sites to publish reviews in their favour, I am telling you something..I don't believe most of these review and that just shows you how much influence Nvidia has on the market and on the media.

Truth is they took a hit with the new Radeons and they have lost a lot of shares from the market and still they cannot take it down and all these fake reviews + the price drop..shows you how desperate they are.

What do you think?

Theres other forces at play here such as the test system being used. Also in the review you posted the gtx280 was only beating the 4870x2 in that single game, all of the other games were favorable to the 4870x2. Not all review websites should be trusted of course because many of them are given free video cards to review which could influence their benchmarks slightly.

Exatly my point...beaten by the 280.

the GTX280 can beat the 4870 X2 if OC'd the G200 oc's higher than the RV770 and the R700 OC's even less. Its not far fetched actully considering the GTX280 is at most 15% behind the x2 in most instances

if i get bored on the weekend ill have to do some tests on my gtx 280 and clock the system the same to systems in reviews and see what scores i get in comparison (to see is the gtx 280 scores have been fudged)

And I suspect that game just happens to be Crysis, which, is where these type of cards are needed; not in any other game (unless you're going mad on a 30" monitor with 16X16 AA or QX or whatever the hell they call it now).

I was under the impression it went:

9800GTX vs 4850 vs 9800GTX+
260 vs 4870
280 vs X2

With overclocks putting some in front of the other.

Though ultimatley, reviews are bleh. You only know once it's in YOUR system.

its something like, the 4870 is 13% faster than the the gtx260 and 7/8% slower than the gtx280. cant remember where the review is; its either hexus, tpu or toms hardware.
