Odd monitor problem *NEW INFO*

I have a monitor (listed in my specs) that sometimes does not turn on when the computer is started or brought out of sleep mode. If I unplug the power cord & plug it back in it works fine, no other problems with it at all. Any thoughts? Is it eminently going to fail, should I RMA?

I think it has to do with you 5970. This has been happening to me recently, and I have dual 5970's.

Try switching power cables if you can, also try and see if it works fine on another monitor.

It may be the 5970, especially if both you and t ski are having the same issue.

i have heard of this problem with some ati cards and mine. they won't wake up the screen when computer goes to hibernate or sleep. after switching to newest drivers it hasn't happened to me yet*

I forgot to mention, I've already tried different power cords, monitor cables, & used two other computers with the same reults. I tried both VGA & DVI ports too. They all were ATI based graphics cards though, so maybe that is the key?

Ya that sounds like that's the problem, make sure you have the latest driver installed.

I finally was able to test my monitior on a system with a Nvdia card & have the same results. Many times on a boot up or reboot the monitor does not come on at all & it will not allow you to power it off either. The only way to get it to work again is to unplug it & replug it in. If I tuen off the monitor just as Windows is shutting down & the turn it on after booting it works fine. Any thoughts, it's quite annoying.

So have you tried using another monitor yet?(if you can)

Because it really sounds like it's the monitor having an issue.

Yes, the other monitor works fine. I'm not sure Asus would consider this a RMA situation though, hopefully, it's annoying.

Other than this issue, how happy are you with this Asus monitor? I was just looking at this one last night as a possible third monitor. How is the vertical and horizontal field of view?

I've been very happy with it, vibrant crisp colors, plays everything smooth as silk without a hint of ghosting, as far as the fields of view it is much better than the 22" Samsung it replaced.

I have had problems with ATI cards not waking a screen out of power-save. It is really annoying. Try a shorter or higher quality DVI cable... incl. making sure it isnt tangelled up around metal legs of a desk... which can all cause signal degradation.

try installing the 10.5b beta driver, ill bet you it fixes the problem
