Odd smell from automatic voltage regulator

Recently got an AVR, I know these things vent but the smell coming from it is odd and even gross, irritating. It's a forza FVR-3001, at first it gave the classic smell of new electronics BUT now it's a hard to describe, pungent mix of hot air with a smell like blood, metallic and sharp.
What is this?

Could be factory anti-corrosion coating on internal metal connections

Once the new electronics smell goes away, you should not smell anything. I would contact the vendor if returns are still possible, or the maker if you need to go the warranty path. It sounds like something is getting too hot.
