so, im helping my friend manhandle a opteron 165 into a laptop, obviously it was not designed for this type of dual core setup. first thing we are doing is glas beeding all the paint off the heatsincs and pulling the heatspreader off ad machining a solid copper large diameter shim to go in its place. any one know of utilitys to controll the fan speed of fans in laptops or a good hardware temp monitor? the chips all support monitoring but we dont hav any software to do it with off hand... hes going to run windows on it, i know of motherboard monitor but dont know if its still updated or if it supports laptops to begin with.
thoughts and or ideas would be great... (no watercooling)
spec
opty 165
1gb cas2 matched dual channel memory
7200rpm hitachi 60gb hd
ati x200m laptop graphics (too bad this cant be updated)
1280x800 widescreen non glossy (hafta do some modding on this too, think i got it covered.)
this is an HP laptop that uses a standard 939 socket and in THEORY should support dual channel ram in this set up...
