Origin PC Build Question

Hello,

I have built my own PCs for at least the last 25 to 30 years. The "building bug" actually began with my first computer (a kit called the Altair 8800), which I put together in the mid-70s. Unfortunately, my disability has progressed to the point where I no longer built my own systems, so I have come to the point for the first time in many years that I am in the market for a "custom-built PC."

I am considering purchasing a new PC from the Origin PCs Genesis line. The case that I am interested in is the Corsair 7000D Airflow. If I buy this Corsair case directly from Corsair or places like Amazon, it comes with two cages that hold three 3 1/2 hard drives each. Just to be safe that the system I want to order from Origin PC would have or support both hard drive cages, I reached out to Origin PC. Unfortunately, the response was pretty generic, stating that none of their systems support the number of hard drives I want and suggested that I subscribe to their newsletter so I would know when and if such a system was ever offered. Thinking that perhaps I didn't make myself clear or that they didn't read my question thoroughly, I wrote back again, asking if that particular build that I had configured would support the forward hard drive cage. I received the same scripted response.

I am wondering if anyone else has ordered a custom PC from Origin PC with this particular case? I am opting for a Corsair iCUE H150i enclosed CPU cooler as opposed to a cooling system that requires a separate reservoir. I was thinking that if I wasn't going to need a reservoir, there should be enough room for the forward hard drive cage? If this is true, I could easily order another hard drive cage and mount it in the forward position from the first hard drive cage. Since Origin PC seems unwilling to or incapable of answering my question, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask here.

Has anyone done this, and if so, doesn't require any major modifications?

Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

The Corsair 7000D from Origin PC will be the very same case that Corsair provide so I see no issues in adding an additional HD cage if required especially as you are buying it with the H150i 360mm AIO (which I have...cooler only) and it is only a rad/pump so does not take up any additional space for a res etc...The Corsair 7000D Airflow is a BIG case with a lot of options to expand...should be more than fine...The problem will be cable management with a second drive cage but doable

How many HD's are you looking to populate as most modern motherboards come with 2 to 3 M.2 drive slots, the newer ones with 4 including at least 6 Sata ports...The Corsair 7000D can handle 4 x HD with upto 6 x 3.5 HD's standard and if you get creative you could find room for more 3.5 HD's but I would make max use of the M.2 Slots as they will provide the most performanc3 though at a cost! but even that is getting cheaper now at $60 for a 1TB M.2 SSD with min read writes of 2.5K

What is the exact model for Origin PC you are thinking of getting?

If they're going to play you "J.E.D.(John E. Doe) to the left" like that, then I would take my business elsewhere. However, if you're determined to get a system from them, then I would try to get in touch with someone there that isn't a parrot who only knows how to recite scripts.
Digital Storm is pretty good, and its not difficult to get a hold of Alex, one of their top guys. The only drawback with Digital Storm is they don't offer much when it comes to parts/brand selection and they have a strict limit when it comes to requesting specific brands of parts that they don't carry/stock. Its the one thing that kept me from ordering a system from them and deciding to go fully custom.

Here is the system that I configured: I Choose Intel since ASUS MBs have always worked flawlessly in all my home-built systems. Plus, those MBs have most of the features I would look for if I could still build them myself. I'm not sure why their AMD MB selection lacks similar features.

To be honest, I don't prefer Origin PC at all. After looking at the 10 top-rated custom PC builders, the others seemed to lack the selection of components that I found on Origin PCs site. Perhaps building my own systems as long as I have made me less compromising as to what goes into my next system. I might need to lower my expectations a bit more.

I forgot to answer your second question. I currently have 8 hard drives in my Cooler Master HAF X which I bought back in 2011. Even if I could build my own systems still, I'd be replacing my tower case with something more up-to-date with newer front USB ports. I now use all SSDs which are all have a 4TB capacity. The higher capacity drives are a bit pricy now, so I'll wait until the economy settles back down. I use my system not only for gaming but for a home server that runs all of my assistive equipment (i.e. opening doors, etc.), security cameras, etc. I have been looking for an external hard drive case that can hold multiple drives, but the read/write speeds concern me.

I'd wait to buy a new computer, but my current system is a bit dated and is starting to have issues.

Yeah, with the way the PC market is now and all the scumbaggery going on at resellers, its near impossible to build a custom rig with a decent graphics card unless you order a complete system from places such as Dell, Origin, Digital Storm, etc., and move the graphics card to the custom rig. So you end up having to buy two systems to complete a single one.

Here's my 2 cents, you can take what you will of them:

Get your RTX 3090 for example a Hydro X Series XG7 RGB 30-SERIES REFERENCE GPU Water Block (3090, 3080 Ti, 3080) for $169.99,
then for Intel Core i9-12900K a Hydro X Series XC5 RGB PRO CPU Water Block (1700/1200) for $69.99, then 4X
PURE 20 ARGB Sync Case Fan TT Premium Edition (1-Fan Pack) $44.99 each to install on Watercool MO-RA3 420 Core for $175.33 (out of stock now).

These were part I found quickly checking but drives the purpose:

Silent cooling system, can't really hear some 4x 200mm fans at 650rpm but you don't have heat issues for either GPU nor CPU which are in same liquid circulation
cooled by radiator some couple feet away from case where it's least needed.

Either way, you're planning a nice piece of machinery. Although my only peeve are those AIO coolers which I've never really got much out of.
But I don't know much about the new ones either.

This is cooling mine now. Sometimes even have to custom make these though:

Well that is one hell of a system and should see you happy for a long time to come. The external HD case is a good idea as speeds should not be an issue because you have ultra fast NVMe SSD's for the fast stuff and the rest for work, media even on the security camera side all running of traditional SSD's and HD's.

Something like this and this is just an example!!!! way to many choices and ways to achieve this at circa $75 to $100: https://www.sabrent.com/product/DS-U3B4/4-bay-usb-3-0-sata-2-5-3-5-ssd-hdd-docking-station/

Or this: https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Driv...4SSD/dp/B0711L68MS?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1

Also, not sure how much of a price difference there is between the TUF Z690 you have chosen and the Strix-A D4 as if there is not much of a difference, it is a bit better overall with an additional USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 20G port at the back, a little bit better on the cooling and VRM's especially on the 12900K though to be honest the TUF should be more than fine.
