Hi guys, might be a dumb thread, but my friend has been overclocking his i5 2500 with msi p67, so i thought is it possible or anyone might have done it? share your experiences if done before, thanks.

PC specs:
i5 2400
Asus Z68 deluxe
4gb 1600mhz
1TB WD Green
SSD 120GB Samsung
Antec BP550+ 80+

You can overclock it by pushing the Turbo multiplier, you can't modify the stock multiplier.

The 2400 has a maximum turbo speed of 3.4Ghz for a single core and 3.2Ghz for 4 cores. On a Z68 board you should be able to push the maximum turbo to 3.4Ghz on all cores.

Remember that it's just the Turbo frecuency and as such is subject to the same limitations (mainly thermal) so be sure to get a better cooler than the stock one. A cheap Hyper 212+ will be fine to keep temps below the throttling threshold.

You can also increase the BCLK BUT since all the sync clocks are tied to BCLK (SATA, PCIe, etc) you're bound to get crashes if you increase it beyond a few Mhz (and by few I mean <10)

EDIT: There's also some boards with un-official overclocking bioses. It might be that your friend installed one on his board.

@TRWOV is most correct. You can overclock all cores fulltime by setting the multiplier to the maximum turbo for your chip. If you set it higher, there is a chip setting that will automatically reduce the number of cores that actually overclock higher (although you CAN set it on or two notches higher and you may have the leeway for all cores, but I'm not sure how set that is across the board) the further over you go. TRWOV mentioned one chip you can go higher on and how it works. You'll need to google your chip specifically to get a good idea across the forums what people are getting, and try it yourself. Good luck!
