PC case USB 3 front panel causing frametime spikes

After spending months trying to figure out why I was getting random frametime spikes (2 or 3 every 5 to 10 mins of gaming) I saw one person on here say to remove the USB 3 cable from my PC case to the motherboard. I saw no way that this would help, but I gave it a go and wow...it worked.

I do not know how or why it worked. Just wonder if anyone knows how a front panel can do this? Is it a grounding issue with the case front panel?

ICUE software? How did you make the USB 3 front panel/ICUE software connection?

Hi. I don't use ICUE. It was just as simple as unplug the USB 3 from the motherboard. Just at a loss as to what makes it happen.

Don't use ICUE. Plus the person who said to try this had the same issue with a Phanteks case so it's not down to Corsair only.

You havent given us any specs of your system beyond the case, which really limits how we can help you

It's clearly an error from the USB ports, but we have no way of knowing if its the cable, the case, the motherboard, a grounding issue... we got nada

The case is Corsair 5000X

Sorry, it's just I did everything to find the issue already and know it's the case, I was just unsure if people know of this issue and how to explain it better to Corsair as the case is less than 12 months old.

I know it to be the case because I tried an Asus Z590, and it did the same thing. And cable wise I would not touch as its under warranty.

But there is also the thing if all Corsair 5000X have this and people have not figured it out, because like me, it's the last thing you would think of when it comes to frametime spikes in games. There could be many people like me trying everything/swapping everything bar the case.

Do you have the front audio connected as well? does it get static noises?

Where is the that RGB hub connected really? From what header it feeds the data line.

Don't use the Corsair RGB hub, just the fan hub which takes its power from a sata.

The HD audio from the front panel is connected, and I have heard a crackle or pop, but it's very, very rare.

try disconnecting that, and reconnecting the USB
you could be getting feedback from the audio, into the USB
I've had trouble with crap front panel audio since the Pentium IV days, so i never use it

I can try that this afternoon, but so far just removing the USB 3 works and USB HD audio left in (never use it though)

If it works, i think front USB would be far more useful

Sadly, no change. It's just the USB 3 that affects the frametimes. My issue is now seeing if other 5000X have this problem or if it was just bad luck with the one I got.

It might all the cases, there is a chance, because most owners will do all that I did 1st and not even thinking about looking at the case as the issue.
