Hi, I just bought myself a pc monitor (gateway 24 inch) full HD 1080...

It has a HDMI port to plug my xbox in it... but there's no analog hole for the audio to come out to my PC speakers...

How the heck am I supposed to hear the sound then? I know HDMI cables transport both image and sound... but the monitor has no built-in speakers appearantly...

So what can I do???????

its a little work, but get a USB soundcard, plug it in and get some decent desktop speakers. I did this with my mini board that had dead onboard sound. The piece is cheaply made and will break if you're rough with it (I wrapped mine in electrical tape and no probs since), but it works. The card does not have adjustable volume so it is maxed out, but thats why you get desktop speakers to control the volume. The SQ is pretty decent in general. Hopes this helps. You can find the USB sound cards anywhere on eBay. This is your best of the cheap routes.

You've got speakers...my bad.

How do USB sound cards work with Xbox's?, i'm yet to see a non Microsoft branded network adapter working with one of those :wtf:

Wow, you most certainly called me on this one. It didn't work. That's the first time I've given dead wrong advice here. Back to the drawing board. Sorry.

Hi,

I think you need this audio cable adapter for audio when you are using HDMI for the video. This one also includes a HDMI cable. And you need to buy a converter/splitter for the PC speakers to make use of those RCA stereo audio cables for attaching to the mentioned audio cable adapter for the console.

Good luck!

where does it say that works with hdmi? if it does, why doesn't the regular rca adapter work?

another option, if all else fails, is to get the xbox 360 vga adapter. that'll give you audio that
can go to your pc speakers and a vga video cable that can do hd on a pc monitor. it's like $30usd though.

You really should of made sure the monitor had an audio out first, unfortunately. digibucc has the only logical answer I can think of at this point, unless you can return your monitor for something else with speakers or an audio out.

Just plug your PC speakers directly into the 360 using the standard analog outputs.

yeah, end of the story is we're gonna bring the monitor back and I'll get myself a nice asus monitor instead with built-in speakers and audio-in and audio-out jacks...

Or use a receiver with hdmi passthrough
