hi

i hav an nvidia 275 gtx.when i chek gpu z bus interface it says

"the graphics card reports that it supports pci express x16 v2.0

but it is currently running at pci express x1 v2.0"

My gpu has depriciated in performance by a great deal recently and most games became unplayable all off a sudden.Could the above problem cause such poor performance.I am pety damn sure my mobo supports pci e x16 v2.0.I have all the latest drivers too.....
How can i get it working as a pci e x16 v2.0???

pls helppp........

thanx

id start by checking my bios settings m8 make sure there nothing forcing pciex to run slower like forcePEG1 for example on mine also try updateing just the pciex port driver in device manager that worked for me once you just need to download the latest mobo driver and manually hunt for it through a device driver update page and update to it.

okay thanx....i will try that

but is this actually the cause of poor performance in latest games??

if it is saying its at x1 in gpuz then id say so that will ruin the memmory bandwidth available to your gfx

I know there's not much of a performance drop from x16 to x8 but down to x1 I imagine that could cause some issues.

edit: load in your system specs through the toolbar on the left of the page after clicking "user cp" so we can know what you have and help you out better.

If you have a 2nd pcie x16 lane try putting it in that and see if it will read it differently. If that fails, and you don't mind doing it, reset your cmos since at one point it was working so maybe the default reset will fix it :)

:)also i dont know your system if you put your system details in its easier to advise

i dont hav a 2nd pcie x16 bus....i also tried resetting bios...to no avail!

hlp meee....

have you made any changes recently to your system? That's very odd that all of a sudden things just decide to change to x1 from x16...

i havnt changed anything recently......i am not quite sure if it was x1 or x16 when it workd normally
the problem fixed itself for a couple of days aftr showing up for the first time....then it happend again....it has been the same eversince!..........my mobo supports x16

btw only thing i did was remove and dust the gpu.....also the mobo...

Try removing the GPU, cleaning the contacts with alcohol, blow out the slot with compressed air if you have any and reseating the gpu. I guess some crud, dust or whatever is preventing good contact in the pcie slot.

but thats no reason why it should be pcie x1 when i hav my gpu on a x16 slot ! :(

If certain points on the card are not making contact, the pcie slot will read it as an x1, x4 or x8

yeah and jam that thing in propa mine kinda trys to pull itself out:eek:

i ve cleaned the contacts and reinserted the card many times...no use...
i forgot to mention that i hav a weird problem....the pc restarts twice before the bios evn shows up and the third time it boots.... its probably a psu problm.....if this causes power shortage to the pcie port...then could that be the problm?

even if this problem is not being caused by a failing PSU I'd change that thing out ASAP. If it's failing and then one day decides to die finally it can take things along with it.

How old's the PSU?
And a last resort kinda thing would be try a fresh install of OS w/ drivers that you know work.

changin os n stuf was the first thing i did....evn tried xp...no hope

the psu is only under an year old....i realy hope its not the card..!!:((

Try putting the card under load using Furmark and check with GPU-z again. It might be the power saving features lowering the bus width to save power(yes it does that).

Otherwise, try reseating the card again. It only takes on pin to not make proper contact and it will force the card down to PCI-E x1. Really make sure you jam it in there good.

As for the rebooting issue, that is normal for Intel chipest boards. Usually though it won't happen under standard stock clock speeds. Have you cleared the CMOS by moving the jumper on the motherboard, or did you just load the defaults in the BIOS menu? You might have to up your chipset voltage a notch as well, an unstable northbridge can cause the PCI-E bus to act funky as well.

Also, when you pull the card out, check the back of it and look at all of these little things along the PCI-E connector.

Make sure they are all there(there should be 32 in 16 pairs). If one is missing it can cause the card to not operate at the full PCI-E x16.

Did you disable that onboard IGP first in your mobo BIOS? So make sure the onboard intel gpu is disabled in the bios first also Force PEG x1.

Did you damage your Mobo at all? I would contact your mobo manufacturer and explain what is happening. RMA would be a last resort.

i would if try new mother board bios updates, after that download lasts mother board drivers

thanx for your replies guys....i'l try alla that and see if it gets fixed

and guys one more doubt will the 275 gtx work on a 400/450 w psu??
